KT150 to KT120..or KT120 to KT150
Thanks @jerryg123 that helps understand more.Similar findings excluding 170s.  I've owned and listened to a few amps running KT150s with smaller transformers and lower plate voltage, and they did not sound very good to me. KT88s were nicer in amps...
KT150 to KT120..or KT120 to KT150
@jerryg123 are you running your KT170s in amps with proper transformers and plate voltage ability to take advantage of the extra 15 watts capability these tubes have over the KT150s? What "attributes" are you hearing differently from KT150s - if y...
KT150 to KT120..or KT120 to KT150
@ozzy 04-15-2022 at 04:46pm "I am using the KT 120’s. I would like to try the KT150’s but I would need 12 of them and they are pricey. What if I don’t prefer them? Too bad there really is no way to just try them." ...
Selling gear with TMR
@pmotz ..."I will not sell to them again, not sure about buying. It’s good to hear others have had good transactions, it just didn’t work out for me." Just to clarify, as a buyer and seller, 2/3 of my experiences have been fair. I regret one of...
Ever change your mind?
+2 to what @mesch mesch and @immatthewj said. Three (3) different amps I sometimes regret selling. While it enabled me to go with my existing mono amps, still miss those too. Hang on to it for as long as you can, never know, might change your mind...
Selling gear with TMR
@pmotz ...They offered $500 which I thought was probably about half what I could get for it and I did not have original packaging so I thought, oh well save me the trouble. They listed it for $1500 and it sold in a few days from their website, ne...
Selling gear with TMR
As a former buyer/seller with them, make sure you do your own research on the historical sales of any product you are attempting to buy or sell to TMR. If you are willing to take less and want convenience, it's one option. The other option is list...
Linlai E 6sn7 tubes
If WE makes more of these smaller tubes that sound good at a reasonable (not overly greedy) price, they will sell in volumes. Competition with PSVANE, Linlai, leftover TJFM, and possibly resurrection of Shuguang down the road, and others coming on...
Life of KT 150 Tubes
+1 @larryi agree, and most don't even realize they've had a voltage spike occur until one of the components isn't working and start troubleshooting backwards from there.
Life of KT 150 Tubes
Quote: "“Forget those new design KT150 tubes! Only use 6550/KT88’s. These have proven reliability - and a lot more affordable! JJ in Slovakia makes good ones.” That might have been true 4-5 years ago. Not so much any more. Its possible OP got h...
KT150 to KT120..or KT120 to KT150
@daveyf, I had a Dennis Had Inspire KT150 Hot Rod amp for a year. Was nice, fairly resolving, yet I needed more than 10wpc for my larger 92.5 db amt/ribbon speakers.  And was sure the 150 tube could do more with more transformer and plate voltage ...
KT150 to KT120..or KT120 to KT150
@daveyf these are the QS Mono 120s are 120watt amps designed and sold with KT150s new as stock. KT120s are doable yet I cannot run KT88s or EL34s in these amps.  Will burn them up, according to the designer.  These have the big transformers and po...
KT150 to KT120..or KT120 to KT150
@daveyf two Quicksilver Mono 120 tube amplifiers with upgraded Mundorf EVO Silver Gold (non oil) capacitors, Premium Psvane MKII 12AU7 and 12AT7 small signal tubes paired with Tung Sol KT120 output tubes. Combo works nicely.
KT150 to KT120..or KT120 to KT150
@daveyf my KT150s are back in their boxes, nice, yet kept comparing. After the KT120s had 100-200hrs on them, have not wanted to remove them. My first impressions were off for sure, and they just needed time to settle in. Very nice.
Life of KT 150 Tubes
@vishu  Always had bias set between  55mu-60mu as recommended  by Auris. I spoke to Tung-sol they said life is between 1000- 2000 hours. Thats is a big variation!!!!! Opinions will vary - and while it may not be related, for reference I run my ...
