New Vinyl Nirvana website is up...vintage Thorens and AR turntable enthusiasts Thanks!
vpi classic works with music hall cruise control Just to get this into the forum search engine...the Music Hall Cruise Control 2.0 DOES work with Thorens vintage turntables with AC synchronous motors and NO wallwart. So, yes for Thorens TD-160, 165, 150, 160 Super and 166, as long as they do NOT...

Vintage or new turntable Three cheers to that...The good old ARXA is the most musical and satisfying vintage table. It is also very forgiving of mediocre recordings. You do need to couple it with a good modern arm for best sound. Not so easy unless you are a capable doer,...
Do you ground your bearing? I include a ground wire on my terpolymer subchassis for the AR turntables...important detail.
When less is more...10 reasons to own Thorens 11. Lotsa real wood veneer.12. Belt-driven, suspended sub-chassis tables have that "it" sound...that airiness around the notes that simulates...gulp...live sound13. More aluminum and wood than plastic can not be a bad thing.
Anyone have an opinion, Jico SAS stylus? The Shure V-15 series is highly overrated, and the Series Type III with the JICO SAS stylus replacement is abominable. If I were you, I would send me a private email right away and let me take any V-15 you have off your hands. J/KDave
New Ortophon Tonearms? Just bumping this thread up...I am about to get my RS-212D in a couple weeks. Anyone own that arm? Impressions? Tips?Dave
Any decent improvments left for my ES-1? Great. Did you do the stub/spindle too? Don't discount the improvement of this part over the mass produced shaft/spindle pridcued by AR in the 1000s. These are singly made of a much better grade stainless steel to much finer tolerances. Dave
Any decent improvments left for my ES-1? I think going for the COMPLETE Merrill platter system would result in a higher level of detail retrieval from your lps. The whole system is: 1)upgraded drive shaft/spindle; 2)acrylic platter; 3)lead mat; 4)outer ring clamp and 5)record weight. In m...

REGA VS MOTH OEM TONEARMS For a long time I used nothing but Rega arms for my table sales, but a couple of years ago I "took a chance" on a Moth arm. I noticed no difference in either build quality or sonic performance. After that, I switched to just OEM arms and have neve...
Thorens TD 125 MK II speed problems I work on Thorens tables all the time, and unfortunately, I am now staying away from the 125 (MKI and MKII) due to their aging circuitry in the speed control domain. It seems on a couple of tables that the minute I solved one issue, another croppe...
Thorens TD145 The Audio Technica AT440mla has a nice synergy with the Thorens arm. Give it 20-30 hours break-in time and you will be incredibly pleased. Dave
Thorens TD147: raising tonearm Perhaps the arm itself need to be raised. With the table off and the arm in the last track of an lp, place a lined notecard behind the arm. Ideally, the arm should be level with the lines on the card. If your arm is too low, that could be causing ... |
