Wilson MAXX musicallity and sound Yeah, but you suffer with IMD, comb filtering and other artifacts that are much worse than any EQ issues. You seem to have no idea what I'm talking about. To that it avoids exciting bass nodes it has a little to do with EQ, but it's mostly about re...
Rowland PC1 PFC on Capri pre early findings My experience with changing PCs and ICs on my Continuum 500 is similar to Guido's. You can't really do efficient A-B comparison because the amp really needs a couple of hours to "recharge" any time it's turned off. Of course, I can mute it to chan...
Wilson MAXX musicallity and sound Shadorne, I don't know how to measure it or demonstrate it, but I believe there is IMD caused by the interaction of the two speakers with each other, not the room.As a musician I often hear beat tones and difference tones when playing with others....
Wilson MAXX musicallity and sound Kana813 said:"I doubt you're getting flat bass response." Duh, who is?? However, very precise placement has mitigated the most obtrusive nodes and balanced the bass vs. the midrange. Moving the speakers fractions of inches can excite nodesThat's w...
Wilson MAXX musicallity and sound "IMD is is the result of two or more signals of different frequencies being mixed together (as in a stereo speaker set up where the signals are not always equal in frequency), forming additional signals at frequencies that are not, in general, at ...
Wilson MAXX musicallity and sound How and why would I forget IM Distortion???? It's way more important than EQ in making the system "listenable". You're shooting at the wrong target when you put all your focus on EQ.Dave
Any thoughts in ICE amps? Stereophile's testing of the Totem showed it dropping to 3 ohms, which will not be a problem for any IcePower or Class D amp that I know of. The high power tends to work very well with relatively low efficiency speakers needing lots of current.Dave
Entertaining A - B Comparison Don't write off the OC-9 until you break in for a few weeks. Lots of good cartridges will sound a little bright and dry early on and warm up with time. VTA could also impact, but wait until you get it broken in before optimizing VTA. Another tenth...
Wilson MAXX musicallity and sound I wonder how we'd measure the intermodulation distortion at the listening position, do you have any ideas? This is about way more than frequency response.Dave
Any thoughts in ICE amps? I think you're speaking of the IcePower amps used by companies like Jeff Rowland Design Group and Belcanto. IcePower was used in a Bang & Olofsen self-powered speaker, but it went through years of development before it was licensed to other us...
Wilson MAXX musicallity and sound Kana813, it's about the balancing the sonic energy. Notice that there are big openings on each side and they're pretty close to the wall behind them and one wall is straight and the other juts out right behind the right speaker. All of those would...
an amp without "electronic" sound Atmasphere, I've been talking about detail and transparency all along. So what amplifier would you recommend? Rather than talking about concepts, why not get specific?Dave
Will adding a preamp dramatically change my sound? YMMV, listen first. Notice that no one was starting with Cary.Dave
Amp's suggestions for B&W Nautilus Prestige? Goodness Sphere, you must get around. Where did you have the pleasure of hearing the Rowland MC606 as a tri-amp solution or as part of a quad-amp? What were its shortcomings vs the Phonosophie equivalent?Rowland has (or had two weeks ago) the 606 ...
New to the game. Please help with set up. Well Michael, it may not be ideal, but you're ears won't bleed and you won't vomit at the results. Could it be improved? No doubt!!Set up of a surround system is way more critical than the speaker brands and their interaction. Since the surround c... |
