Jeff Rowland Pre with Pass Labs X350.5 or X600.5
That Pre 3 will almost certainly "work". What you have to ask yourself is do you want one of the very best pres available at any price, or a good pre for a bargain price. Either is appropriate and only you and your wallet can decide.Dave
Dali Ikon 6 Bass Opinion
Jim, search for DALI here on A'gon and you'll find plenty of discussion, mostly by me, about that very topic.I was disappointed in the low bass of the Helicon 400MkII that was very favorably reviewed by Michael Fremer in Stereophile. It also measu...
Jeff Rowland Pre with Pass Labs X350.5 or X600.5
For instance, I just got off the phone with another new Capri owner. He's ordered his with the phono stage and borrowed my inverse-RIAA board to burn in his Capri's phono circuits. He got put just 60 hours on it and says it's surpassing his Levins...
Jeff Rowland Pre with Pass Labs X350.5 or X600.5
Please realize that Guido is talking about the nth degree of refinement taking 500-hours to shine through. If you'll look back at his early impressions of the Capri and my early impression of my Continuum 500 (which uses the Capri's pre-circuit) y...
Krell KCT/FPB-300cx vs. Pass Labs X1/X250.0
Neal said:"Don't listen to what some of the carpers say about Krell until you listen to it. Mine is dead reliable, a pleasure to listen to and as musical as any amp I have listened to in 35+ years of this mania."I've been a Krell supporter for dec...
Blue-ray player with good 2ch sound?
I don't think that anyone is doing it yet. Watch Pioneer and Oppo. I bet that they put together new "universal" units, including Blueray in the next several months.Dave

06-20-08: Steidlguitars said:"As much as I hate to agree with Dcstep (joke! really!),"Understood. As I said, some people enjoy playing around with tubes and our Chap-cat seems to be one of those. Hopefully his experience with tubes will be as good...
Optimum TT Height
Hang your arms at your side and measure how far your elbows are from the floor. Around that height is what feels most comfortable to me. As long as your not having to bend of or reach high, you'll probably be ok.Dave

Congratulations on your purchases. That should all be a good match for your speakers. If you're going to mod, the CDP is indeed the place to start. You'll need to replace those Chinese tubes eventually, but you can do it over time. It's going to so...
Optimum TT Height
The top of my platter is 49" above the floor and that's very comfortable for me. I'm 6'.Dave
pro-ject speed box 2 , all they say it is ?
Actually, a Speed Box will have absolutely no impact on varying pitch due to record warp. That's not the reason to buy one.Dave
pro-ject speed box 2 , all they say it is ?
I've got the Speed Box SE II in a system driving a Pro-ject RM10. In my system it clearly added bass impacted and steadied the tone of piano quite noticeably.Dave

Understood Tvad, I call those Class-D or ICEpower. They're not "digital" at all, since there's no analog-to-digital or digital-to-analog conversion that takes place. The main chip set in my Rowland controls the remote control functions.Dave
Analog digital converters
My Korg MR1000 hard drive recorder converts analog to digital, up to 5.6mHz DSD. Then from there you can convert it to almost any digital format that you like. I use it to archive D2D LPs and other treasured LPs.Still, I'll be watching with you fo...
