how long to wait for 1080p plasma?
Thanks Yohjo. Does the 58 inch industrial model have 1080p? If so, how does it compare in terms of picture quality to the consumer model? I'll be using it as a monitor only in the HT setup. I just need inputs for satellite box, dvd player, and I g...
1080p an issue for now?
thanks folks for the info on scalers. looks like a 1080p plasma and a video scaler are not in the budget right now. i'll probably just go with either the panasonic 50 inch (60u) or the hitachi 55hds69. i seem to be getting a new tv every 7 to 8 ye...
Best 60" flat panel?
the pioneer languge is a bit confusing. for instance, their page on the PDP 6070HD says that it's resolution is 1365 x 768, but then it says that it can "accept" 1080p/24hz via HDMI and component. does this mean that it's resolution is actually 19...
1080p an issue for now?
i've never even heard of a video scaler (i'm mostly an audio guy, totally new to video stuff). what exactly does it do? can you actually 'upscale' a 720p or 480p signal to 1080p? or is for the reverse (i.e. taking a 1080p signal and making it view...
1080p an issue for now?
thanks for looking those up. it looks like 4 grand for a 52 inch lcd with 1080p and just over 2 grand for a good 50 inch plasma. that's a heck of a premium for 1080p and a slightly better picture. at 57 to 58 inches, it's also about 2 grand more f...
1080p an issue for now?
mark, any idea on what we can expect for lcd prices in the 50+ inch range?
1080p an issue for now?
hang on...the premium for 1080p is actually quite high for plasma. i didn't really like rear projection, which can be had with 1080p relatively cheaply. you can't get it in plasma for under 5 or 6k at least.i have been wondering if 50 inches isn't...
which technology really has the best picture
This has been helpful so far. More specifics: I can't fully control the lighting in there, as there are four windows and two big openings that lead to other rooms with windows. There is daylight in the room, which is why I haven't looked at a fron...
tall solid speaker stands?
maybe i'm crazy. i was thinking the bottom of the speaker box should be at couch height, as otherwise the sound would just be bouncing right off the back of the couch. having the tweeter at ear height seems to make sense, but if i do that then the...
Bryston 4bst/5bst vs. dreadnaught I
Thanks for the comments folks. Sounddood - are you saying that the Bryston actually has better bass than the dread? Sd - I've seen you post on Brystons many times, and I've had several myself. It's never worried me because of the warranty and I do...
Please reccomend a good sub cable
I'm using a Rel Storm III sub and I found something interesting when auditioning sub cables. I was using a cheap ultralink rca cable and tried a cable from xlo ($100) and 2 cables from synergistic research ($300 and $500). No difference whatsoever...
good, small speakers
Another option - Snell K.5 Mark IIs are good monitors, and designed for close to walls. About $1200 retail I think. Good luck.
issue of speaker stands
Where does one generally get them?
Can I suspend / hang speakers?
Sorry, I wasn't clear. He's talking a non-rigid mount, like with chain, rope, etc., that could be raised and lowered easily.
Does unequal speaker wire length matter?
At that length timing has very little to do with it. However, resistance is different over those lengths, which does matter. Sorry.
