Looking for speaker base suggestions
Auralex is very effective in decoupling my pair of 15" subs from the floor.db
Why Single-Ended?
almarg, thanks for the advice.I have a pair of ISO-MAX PI-2xR converters I have used in the past, but it's a bit a kluge.  I hadn't thought to try converting just one side of the KUBE link to balanced -- a half kluge. An alternative in the manual f...
Surround Processor / Pre Amp / 3D Sound Field
I use a Bryston SP3 that I think is very good both for stereo and surround.  The front LR are passed through a Parasound JC 2 BP, but I think that's entirely unnecessary -- I had the JC 2 before the SP3, so I use it.db
Why Single-Ended?
Al, Peter, Ralph,I use a KEF 107/2 KUBE between a Parasound JC 2 BP and JC 1 monoblocks.  The KUBE is single ended in and out, so prevents a balanced connection between preamp and amps.  The amps are adjacent to speakers, with over 10' separation ...
Looking to upgrade my preamp, suggestions?
I've been very impressed with the Ayre K-5xeMP preamp I bought used.  As I understand it, Charles Hanson aims for a bit of tube-like sound without tube maintenance issues.  I have a lead on an Ayre VX-5 Twenty amp to go with it that I hope is real...
Importing files to iMac
I have XLD, JRiver, and Audirvana running on my iMac.  Yet iTunes seems to be the default app for music files.  Should I quit out of iTunes if I want to try ripping with FLAC?
Importing files to iMac
I've managed to rip an SACD using FLAC with XLD and the tracks show up in an XLD window on my iMac, but I don't know how to make the HAP transfer app find the file.  It seems to look for files in iTunes.db
High Quality Universal Player??
Does Oppo support streaming Tidal wirelessly through WiFi?yes
Have you ever tried a pair of speakers and said this Is the last thing I will ever need.
s2000CR,Budget Marantz 18 in 1967?  It cost a whole month of post-doc stipend.  For years, that 18, an AR turntable with Shure V15, and a pair of AR3a speakers served as my audio setup, and I was proud of it.  Those units are sitting in my closet.db

Spencer, The statement I can make without fear of dispute is that I don't know what the Sony HAP-Z1ES does, but whatever it does, the sound satisfies me.My principal SACD player is an Ayre C-5xeMP in another setup.  Neither the HAP-Z1ES nor the XA...
Importing files to iMac
I should have written that I don't know if it writes a hirez file or converts it during playback.  I do know an SACD source sounds like an SACD.
Importing files to iMac
I'm not sure what the HAP-Z1ES does.  I think it may upscale uncompressed encoding to DSD during playback, and attempt to address the loss from compressed encoding.
Importing files to iMac
Following advice of Abe Collins at an Asylum thread I reset iTunes AIFF encoding to automatic and 16 bits.  I've now become pretty proficient at resetting the Sony HAP, clearing the iTunes library, resetting encoding, and clearing the memory of th...
KEF 107.2 with KUBE?
I understand there were some 107/2 KUBEs with balance XLR connections.  I'd pay $1K for one of those.

I've been confusing kHz with kbps.   iTunes offers 48 kHz at 16 bits for AIFF.  Thanks.
