A streaming setup that competes with my CD and turntable set up?
I think you're getting some bad advice here.  Might better try the Asylum.  A Mac Mini running Roon that sends files to something like a Senore microRendu via Ethernet with asymmetrical USB to something like an Ayre Codex DAC should serve your pur...
Dipping my toe in
milostyn, I plan to also try driving pairs of stacked KEF Reference 102.2s wired in series for 8 Ωs that have an 89 dB sensitivity rating.  They could be dedicated for use with the Cary monoblocks, whereas the Reference 1s would be switched betwee...
Separate subs for music and HT/surround
Tim,I’m using my 205 in the living room with an Audio Engine until i get the Marantz Model 18 serviced. An Ayre A7e & Codex for Roon also reside in that room. The Velodyne HGS-15 that was not serviced seems has developed a barely audible low fr...
Ethernet Bridge For Streaming
ericsch,That's correct.  The MESH is a WiFi device that can deliver hardwire Ethernet to an endpoint.  db
Ethernet Bridge For Streaming
I used a similar setup for ethernet for a while, but I've since adopted the Google MESH system.  Router is upstairs.  Roon core runs downstairs on Mac Mini with Ethernet to a microRendu and USB to Ayre Codex DAC.  Roon bridge runs upstairs on an i...
KEF Reference 207/2s or Blade 2
I like to buy at around 50% MSRP, so I'll watch for a pair of racing red Blade 2s and continue to enjoy my Reference 1s supplemented by the Velodyne HGS-15s.  I probably won't sell the JC 1s and JC 2 -- wonder how well JC 1s would pair with KX-5 T...
KEF Reference 207/2s or Blade 2
George,I ran the JC 1s in low-bias mode with the 107/2s, because I listen at moderate levels and the amps run very warm in high-bias mode.  I suspect I rarely approached the 10 watt Class A limit for low bias.  Given the speakers are easy to drive...
XA5400ES owners - what are you using now?
I still have the Sony, but I haven't used it for several years.  I've been using an Oppo 205, and now moved to an Ayre DX-5 DSD.  But in fact I rarely spin discs anymore, preferring Roon files via Ethernet to an Ayre QX-5 DAC.
Amplifier ideas with KEF Reference 1
I ran LS50s with Ayre KX-5 Twenty preamp and VX-5 Twenty amp, with Roon via Ethernet to a QX-5 digital hub and a DX-5 DSD disc player as sources.  I've since replaced the LS50s with Ref 1s.  The sound with LS50s or Ref 1s is excellent in our 14' X...
Sub advice needed
I have a pair of Velodyne HGS-15s and a pair of HGS-10s.  Does that count as four subs, or do they need to be the same size?  Tim seems to think it does.  He's been urging me to give up my idea of separate pairs of subs for stereo and HT setups.Do...
Separate subs for music and HT/surround
Tim,I think we are expected for Thanksgiving at out cousins in the Hollywood Hills.  We may make a two day trip of it and drop off the subs in LA the day before.  When we have four working subs, I'll try them with the stereo setup.
Separate subs for music and HT/surround
Tim,I've never had four working subs in one room.  Previously the HGS-10s were downstairs, the HGS-15s upstairs.  Since moving them all upstairs, two at any given time have needed repair.  Another dreaded trip to LA is required to have four functi...
DACs for older gear
I've settled on separate stereo and HT setups.  The stereo setup uses Ayre 5X Twenty components with KEF Ref 1s.  The HT setup uses the Oppo 205 and NAD amps with 6 KEF LS50s.  Each setup has a pair of subs.  The setups reside in a single rack, bu...
Separate subs for music and HT/surround
OP here.  As noted in my 11/2 post I've settled on separate stereo and HT setups, each with a pair of subs.  Both setups reside in a single rack, but do not share any cabling.db
Separate subs for music and HT/surround
Tim won't like this, but my current plan is a stereo setup comprised of Ayre Series 5X Twenty components and KEF Ref 1s, and a surround/HT setup comprised of an Oppo 205, NAD M22, and a pair if NAD 268s with six LS50s.  Current thinking is to use ...
