KCI Pure Gold and the benefits
I'd like to share my impressions using a Kool Cables gold Pegasus digital cable. I know there are some fans of this cable (and their Silkworm IC's, etc.) here and that would have to include me. First up, John is a very nice cat and his service is ...
Review: KCI Silkworm Interconnect
I’d like to share my impressions using a Kool Cables’ Pegasus digital cable to go along here with their Silkworm IC's. First up, John is a nice cat and his service is first class. What I am buying is an older prototype of the Pegasus and John insi...
Monitors for Extreme Near-field listening
Think the Roger's would be a bad choice for your application. While I admire them and the Sequerra's, too, I think there are better recommendations above. Those speaks need some space to develop to their potential and some substantial power in tha...
The best speaker you ever heard?
For a small to medium size room I may have heard some candidates just this past Sunday . . Esoteric M20's driven by a Grant Fidelity integrated and a Koetsu Urushi mounted in a 12" arm on a Nottinghamm Space Deck. Last month in a church abbey, som...
So Much "Harshness"
Conventional box speaker owners should check out diffractionbegone.com. Many times it's not the equipment or speaker high frequency drivers that are responsible for this. It is what happens to sound waveforms, the vehicle of the information your s...
The best "imaging" speakers?
The Gallo Reference speaker is probably a candidate because they are baffleless, diffraction free.
Daedalus
I heard the DA1's on 2/14/09 in a very large room driven by some Manley monoblocks and a VTL pre and thought they were just fabulous. This was at a meet and a lot of recordings were played. We were seated at the end of a very large triangle, much ...
Just moved and have a smaller audio room 10.5 x 15
I would just add some info about your room. One listener above suggested the long wall should be behind your speakers. Try it, but also try pulling your speaks out three or four times there depth from the short wall behind your speaks and two to t...
the grills
If your or any speaker grills have frames, those would be a source of arbitrary reflection.
Celebrity Audiophiles? Do you guys know of any?
I remember that article about Fabio. It had pictures, too. I got the impression he subjects all his dates to his system (been there, done that). He was swapping out some cables for a couple of girls in the article. Huge Martin Logans! Don't think ...
Cheap tweaks...What would YOU reccomend?
A comment about a speaker tweek lifted from another forum-"Sorry if I didn't make this clear. Longer waveforms are wrapping around box speaker enclosures and being reflected later in time by room boundaries and such. Hence, a reason for room treat...
What's the oldest piece of gear in your system?
Tho I don't use them at present, a first generation Koetsu and a battery powered, perhaps the grandaddy of battery powered phono step up devices, Marcof PPA-1.
Diffraction be gone
Damn good post, Shad. Using the pads described above, off axis energy above the crossover also measured appreciably down in level (-4db) and therefore side wall and room reflection is made a little more benign. Audibly, I would hope. Guys with sma...
Diffraction be gone
Atkatana- The quote from Dr. Geddes was imported from another discussion elsewhere for it's relevance to the discussion here and to what you're getting less of now, timing and phase error. Regards frequency response, one learned fellow said above ...
Diffraction be gone
Most people think of diffraction as simply having a small effect on the frequency response, but that is incorrect. Because diffraction is time delayed from the original sound it can be highly audible even if it only has a small measureable effect....
