Power Cords: A Skeptic Looking to Dabble...
Tls49+1-A dedicted power line is the correct first step. If your an apartment dweller or renter and can't have a dedicated line, invest in a PS Audio Power Plant. Back to the original question... ask yourself what are you looking to improve? And d...

Recommendation - Ref 3a, GMA, NHT or Fritz?
Tubegroover-Who made you the AGON Gestapo? When ever I post an opinion I will always let the OP know if I had demoed or heard the component being discussed. Regarding the original question IMO the Carbon 7 fits the needs best(of the speakers menti...
Zu or Totem or ProAc?
First of all i've never heard a Zu loudspeaker. From everything i've read there basically a rock speaker. Have heard several Totem's and they made a good first impression but had an "over the top" hifi/ish presentation. This was many years ago may...
Recommendation - Ref 3a, GMA, NHT or Fritz?
Canjo07-I've heard an earlier version of the Decapo and I thought it was to colored in the midrange. I don't know if the current version has the same characteristics. The GMA is designed to use the room to achieve it's lowest bass output. This tel...
Recommendation - Ref 3a, GMA, NHT or Fritz?
Of the 4 speakers mentioned the Fritz Carbon 7 is IMO the best allrounder. The only issue is clarity/resolution(from what i've read). For value you might want to consider a used Revel Performa M20/22 since you have plenty of power. Also take a loo...
Which $500 Speaker Next?
With a $500 speaker sound quality should be most important not looks! With that in mind a 2nd hand ATC SCM 7 or Magnepan MMG will compete or exceed anything available at this price point, if your concerned about what's on the recording.
Luxman PD-171 turntable
Bongofury-I never questioned your credentials, i've read many of your posts and I respect your knowledge. The issue is when you mention some Dual(no model #)dumpster find besting a Luxman that's been close to 30 years in the making well... A Garra...
Recommend a used vintage receiver for under $100?
Might be able to find a decent Toshiba SA-725/750 for around $100.
Is the Simaudio Moon Eclipse good value? Help
Always been a fan of Simaudio dacs-transports and players. Have always considered their amps-int.amps-preamps not performing at the same level of the digital gear(just my opinion). Would you be willing to pay for repairs if they occur(laser-transp...
Luxman PD-171 turntable
Dave 72-There are always going to be people that claim vintage gear is equivalent(sound quality) to current gear. I think the price/performance ratio of current components upsets some longtime audiophiles and they develop a bias towards vintage ge...
Any thoughts on McIntosh MA600
I've heard the 6300 and 6600 and was disappointed. The 6300 struggled to drive an ATC SCM11 which to some degree is understood. The 6600(200w/ch) sounded anemic mated to a Sonus Faber Liuto. Was it synergy or the MAC cd player? These are only 2 ex...
what is my system's weakest link?
With a limited budget the Thiel 1.5 must go due to demands they make with amps and offer little in return. As mentioned by others look into Focal, Triangle or even a current Rega speaker RS3/5 and keep the Brio. If you must have a Thiel speaker lo...
Great films where music is a central theme.
The Pianist.
Luxman PD-171 turntable
IMO what could hold this well built turntable back is the tonearm. From what i've read it's very similiar to a Jelco 750, not the type of arm I would want on a $6k deck. Luxman should consider an armless model, my hunch is sales would increase.
