Opus 21 vs Esoteric X-3se
I use the GNSC modded Opus and heard the unmodded player against one of the cheaper Esoterics, sorry I can't remember which, but more costly than the Opus. The view in the dem room was pretty universal, the Esoteric was clearly more detailed, bett...
Warm Preamp
2nd, 3rd, 5th whatever, CJ. I have used a Premier 14 and 17 and both were about the finest component I have had in my system. Wide detailed soundstage, good depth and the warm side of neutral. The older units go for very low prices 2nd hand and yo...
New Ortophon Tonearms?
I use the longer RS 309D on my TW accustic Raven one. It's beautifully made and great sound, good base, great tracker. I would say one of the best value arms around. As you say, you hear very little about them
Raven One Owners - some questions
I have my Raven one on a reasonable wall shelf. Mine came with the millenium feet. I have tried Symposium Rollerblock juniors and stillpoints and stillpoints came out best, by a good margin, better detail, transparency. These are the stock Stillpo...
I'm taking a poll...
I go for A, life is too short to adjust VTA with each record, particularly if VTA is not adjustable on the fly. The extra factor to consider is the cartridge. I think there is no doubt VTA affects the sound, in general front down accentuates trebl...
Which Integrated got you off the merry go round?
Viva Solista, provided you have a sensitive enough speaker, I am not sure how you can do better. Only 22 watts, but SET watts, it controls my 89 db Acoustic Zen Adagios with ease. I have not heard better and I have had a few amps, Pass labs Akleph...
best phono preamps?
Returning to the Tron 7, it is very good., but I recently compared it to my K&K stage in Graham the Tron designers all Tron system. I thought the sound was very similar, very musical with a good flow and dynamics to the sound, very low noise f...
anyone familiar with aurios isolation
I used Aurios and found some benefit. Personally, I prefer Stillpoints and Symposium Rollerblock Juniors. I use a combination of them. For a cheaper option, Herbies Isocups are very good indeed and a steal for the money.
RMAF 2008 - Your impressions,...
Anyone listen to the Ridge Street Sason speakers? A few of us are interested as they are tricky to listen to, unless you live in the dark outposts of the midwest.
What are your fav “Off Hollywood” films
Some excellent suggestions, but no mention of my favourite director, Kurosowa. OK some mentioned Seven Samurai. The best 2 though, I thought were: Kagemusha, the opening shot of a warrior running down a castle, lasts about 8 minutes and stopped me...
Rollerblocks under turntable ?
I agree with Goldeneragauy, I have experimented with the supplied Millenium feet, Rollerblock juniors and Stillpoints, with and without risers, under my TW Accustic Raven one. The Stillpoints were clearly superior used on my wall shelf. I did'nt f...
Wavac MD-805m
I am looking at the 805M too, having heard it at the London HiFi show recently. It looks and sounds wonderful. If only it had more than 1 input, you could do away with a pre amp. If you have sensitive speakers, the 300B integrated sounds wonderful...
Highly efficient speakers to pair with my SET amp
18 watts and tube watts at that, is not flea powered, many conventional speakers are eminently suitable. My 22 watt SET for example, drives my 89db acoustic ZEN adagios, with better grip than the 180 watt SS amp I also used. In addition to the abo...
Obscure companies making excellent speakers?
Another brand I found at the UK HiFi show in london last weekend, Acoustic Plan. http://www.acousticplan.de/html/products.html A very nice open baffle design, with base drivers that can be driven actively or passively. That gives a sensitivity of ...
New Sason's Wow ...
To ask a dumb question, someone has to, how short is short? The web site gives the new dimensions. Having got an idea how large the old ones were, I would like an idea, just how much smaller the new are, thanks
