Pink Floyd best CDs soundwise
A big part of what you are experiencing is due to the fact that a good LP issue of a given album will normally sound much better than the even the best digital version. That's not just Pink Floyd, but across the board (all things, e.g. playback ge...
ARC Reference 110 vs older ARC amps eg VT150
Each VS55 is normally a stereo unbalanced amp. To convert a VS55 into a mono balanced circuit requires that you have a balanced preamplifier and make two special set of "Y" interconnects. Lets look at one channel for this example. Coming out of yo...
Vandersteen 5a's - an upgrade from Vienna mahlers?
With respect to the question of the 5A's bass and dynamic capability: The 5A's have a dynamic advantage that outweighs any potential limitation due to 1st order crossover slopes and that is their active push-pull woofer. No passive speaker can beg...
Confused... Projector or Plasma???????
In a dedicated room like the one you describe a projector makes much more sense. I agree with some of the previous posts that believe you are thinking too small for screen size. We use a 92" diagonal screen here at Ultrafi and our viewing distance...
ARC Reference 110 vs older ARC amps eg VT150
How does the VS110 sound? Very nice, if rounder and less transparent than ARC's balanced amplifiers. A Richard Vandersteen preference, which I agree with, is to get two VS55's and run them as balanced monoblocks. Very cool.
ARC Reference 110 vs older ARC amps eg VT150
The VS110 is ARC's entry level, unbalanced 100 watt tube amplifier. It is virtually identical sounding to the smaller VS55 aside from power.
ARC Reference 110 vs older ARC amps eg VT150
I respectfully disagree with Nsgarch. The VT150 was very impressive in its day, but ARC has surpassed its sound with many amplifier models since. The VT100mkII and VT200 (very similar designs) are faster, tighter, and more extended. The next genera...
request comparison between ARC HD220 and Ref 110
I sell both amps and listen to them nearly every day. I also own a VT100mkIII at home and lust after a REF110.The REF110 is maximally open, liquid, and effortless in its presentation. There isn't even the slightest hint of grain. It's silky smooth...
A hard look at the effect of cables
Shadorne, I'm not used to seeing you respond with so many paragraphs littered with all-caps. I'm also surprised that this little cable item has led you to call for a moratorium on passive loudspeakers with an eye toward examining the possibility o...
Vandersteen 2CE Sigs tweeter too high
Rosedanny,All I did was point out the correct way to set them up in terms of tilt and height. Unfortunately, there is only one way to achieve proper time alignment. Sorry if that seems "fundamentalist" to you but that's how it is. No one has discu...
Audioquest cables?
Older AQ cable like the Midnight and Argent were made with different metal from a different source than the conductors used in their cables today. Sonically, the older cables were very friendly but a bit mushy in the bass and generally soft soundi...
Vandersteen 2CE Sigs tweeter too high
Vandersteen speakers are not intended to be level or tilted forward, nor should they be lowered and run without their spikes. Read the manual and follow the detailed tilt instructions necessary for achieving proper time alignment of the drivers. T...
Any experienced Projector users?
Go to AVS Forums and spend some time doing research. IMO DLP projectors have gotten so good and are so inexpensive that they are the best way to go today. LCD still suffers from poor black level which makes everything look washed and less 3D, and ...
Audiophile Results
If you want good two channel music results combined with the ability to do home theater, do not use a surround processor as your main preamp. Get a real analog two channel preamp (preferably one with a processor input) and a separate surround proc...
