Linn Sondek CD 12
I used to sell the CD12 when it was current and have listened to again it more recently. It is still one of the best transports I have ever heard at any price. When it was current it was considered one of the most musical and well balanced players...
Fujitsu Plasma Screens Any thoughts?
Sorry swampwalker, I don't know how to access a hidden menu.
Can speaker cables be too thick?
Muralman, while it seems we agree on the importance of the dielectric contribution, we disagree about the shape of the conductor. I have experimented quite a bit with round vs. flat or rectangular conductors and my experience is exactly the opposi...
Can speaker cables be too thick?
Dazz, using a selection of solid core silver conductors that I experimented with, when I got to 18awg I could already hear the sound getting too thick. Beyond that it just kept getting worse. Remember though, you can't draw any global conclusions ...
Fujitsu Plasma Screens Any thoughts?
I sell Fujitsu Plasmas. What makes them special is their combination of the best black level and excellent scaling. They tend to make even the best mass market plasmas (Pioneer) look more "digitized" by comparison. The downside is that they are mo...
Can speaker cables be too thick?
I have found when making my own cables that too thick a conductor sounds bad (oddly enough too thick sounding) as does too thin. The range that I have found sounds best is between 18awg and 20awg per solid core conductor with the particular metals...
Can speaker cables be too thick?
The fact of the matter is that pretty much any cable should be ok provided you avoid the obvious pitfalls...4 ohm speakers with 50 foot speaker cables of 20 AWG.This is an independent engineers view. I have no axe to grind as I don't sell cables.S...
To those who've tkn Vandersteen 5A upgrade plunge
I'm a Vandersteen dealer. Let me try to clarify a few things.1. The 5A is an improved version of the 5. How much better? As with everything in life, that will be for each listener to decide. The changes involve upgraded drivers, new switching powe...
Analysis Plus Oval 9 & Vandersteen 3As
Vandersteen uses Audioquest to build the balanced X2 as well as the M5HP and M5HP-Balanced high pass filters. You will also often find Vandersteen using Audioquest as their speaker cable at shows.
James Randi vs. Anjou Pear - once and for all
Shadorne, I'd try some of the entry level Audioquest like Type 2 or Type 4. Both are solid core copper cables with the Type 4 being a heavier gauge. You can buy them raw for a few bucks a foot and not have to pay for termination.Within the realm o...
James Randi vs. Anjou Pear - once and for all
A small and barely audible difference is the most that could be expectedWell, at least that's a start.
James Randi vs. Anjou Pear - once and for all
Shadorne,Just as some manufacturers may over-hype their products in their advertisements, be careful not to under-hype or underestimate the effect that various stressors can have on a person's ability to perform what is an otherwise relatively eas...
James Randi vs. Anjou Pear - once and for all
Shadorne,I think you are selling your ears short. Without getting in to exotic expensive cables, just try a set of some of the least expensive solid core cables in your system. I can't say that you will surely like them better, but I think you wil...
James Randi vs. Anjou Pear - once and for all
There are many things about this challenge that make it difficult, if not impossible, to obtain the natural result that anyone would hear in their own system if they tried the same cable comparison under normal circumstances. Leaving aside the exc...
Anybody Felt Lower-End ARC preamps Bass-Shy?
Be careful not to tune your system to fit one, perhaps not so great, recording. If your system is neutral and truthful it will show you how some recordings are wonderful and many are not. Your system should not be making bass that isn't present on...
