Used Preamp on a budget advice please.
Okay, I pulled the trigger on the Krell mentioned above. The price was very low so if it doesn't work out I can easily recover the cost. I lusted for Krell at Progressive Audio in Columbus during my college years- this made the decision a little e...

Your Threshold Threshold S500/II (great amp BTW I had one) only needs around 1.2v input to give full 250w output, so a low gain preamp would be best to have so you can have a good range of rotation on the volume control, as most sources are ov...

Dastro - I'd have to check the manual for the SSP but I think that it allows for HT type bypass as does the CP series (manual is online). - Otherwise, you'd probably need to look at the manual and connections on your Yamaha to see what's possi...

Dastro - Your philosophy and approach is absolutely sound. In almost every respect the very best deals on used 2ch stereo preamps on the market today might just be older extreme high-end pre/pro's that lack HDMI and modern processing formats.I ...

. Well, the Krell KAV-250p has a "home theater passthrough" mode that can be configured on input #3. You would just take the left/right pre-outs from the Yamaha and connect them directly into input 3 on the Krell. This will save you the cost...

Yea, I've been looking for CJ's, but if they're remote capable, they're newer and out of my price range.  Thanks for the advice!
Recommendations for used CD player
Mmmm, that's good to know.  Now I get to buy more gear!
Recommendations for used CD player
I have decided to keep using my Yamaha DVD player as my CD player since I'm back to using the 802's.  Frankly, they sound wonderful together- there is no need to try to warm things up.
Recommendations for used CD player
After lots of listening and speaker positioning, I have decided to go back to my 802 Series 2 and I no longer feel the need to try to change my system to change my speakers' sound.  They just sound more balanced and natural.  Also, they just aren'...
Warm Sounding Preamp Suggestions
213runnin, I think the BAF's ability to extend, tighten, and articulate the base rounded out the 801's overall response, resulting in much, much less glare.

ct0517,That makes sense.  I sometimes used a Velodyne DD-10 with a pair of 802 S2 and thought the 801's after the BAF installed reminded me of that sub's slam, extension, and grip, but with 2 of them,  producing a tremendous soundstage and depth.

Thanks for the input from all.  I also posted this issue in the "speakers" forum.  The purchase and installation of an Anodyne bass alignment filter fixed most of the issue for me.  It filled out a lot of the bottom end with more extension, vastly...
B&W 801 S2 Fatigue VS. 802 S2 No Fatigue?
All, thanks for the feedback and advice. I have some good news. The Anodyne BAF arrived yesterday. It has made an enormous difference. The bass is now incredibly deep and articulate, faster, and more dynamic. The bass can now be felt, not ...
B&W 801 S2 Fatigue VS. 802 S2 No Fatigue?
mrdecibel, this makes sense.  I've thought about somehow trying to incorporate a nice preamp into the system for music only listening.  I'd probably incorporate a high quality, passive RCA switch.I should and probably will post this under "amps pr...
B&W 801 S2 Fatigue VS. 802 S2 No Fatigue?
Shadorne, thanks for response.  After just hooking up the 802's again, you are completely right.  The lower treble and midrange are so much more attenuated.  They most certainly do not sound as open and complete.I'll give my ears some time to take...
