Are manufacturer AC cables good enough?
When a builder stakes his reputation on his design, he will use a good cable.  When a product is subcontracted out, NO!  Jame Bongiorno, of GAS/Ampzilla fame,  was supposed to be a great designer, but compared to similar Julius Siksnius designed a...
What kind of listener are you?
I am also a very good listener.  What was the question?
If I just use a DAC, do I need a Pre-amp?
Yes you can, but the impedances of the equipment might not match, causing anomalies.
Why do you guys pursue a flat frequency response when you buy a subwoofer?
Interesting question because:  When we insist on a flat frequency response, then mess with it with the cheap crossovers most subs have, we are at least starting with a sub that does not add or subtract info from a poor design.  Personally, I use a...
What do you think causes the crackle and clicks we hear?
These clicks, etc. are caused by a good stylus that tracks the imperfections, or a bad one that does not .
Does anyone collect something else other than music.
I am more of a hoarder than a collector, but I did jy=ust buy a huge garbage can, which I plan to fill weekly with my "collections".  I guess paintings would be closest, but i just sell a few of those. My friend think I collected CD's and LP's, bu...
has anybody else noticed this about flac audio?
For my ears, all streamed audio sounds compressed.  Calling it "Lossless" means that it is streamed with all the compression put into the server where it is stored.   "Lossless" means that after the recording was mixed to save space through compre...
If you had to start all over again in this day and age
I might buy better B&W speakers, but the subs I built using DM16 (Prototype 801) drivers makes me happy with my crystal clear 803's, especially since the subs are powered by my Audire Forte, which the Audio Emporium's online museum stated had,...
How many people here generally buy used?
Mt first used piece was a Crown pre-amp to go with my new Phase Linear 400.  After a 1979 Kenwood TT and Tuner, I have bought mostly used.  I did buy my first Audire pre-amp new, because the factory sales rep, my neighbor, was out of them. All of ...
Speaker cable arrows???
The electricity that makes speaker drivers in and out is not like water in a faucet.  It pushes the speaker out and pulls it in.  It does this by alternating the current back and forth at the frequencies of the music.  Directional speaker wires ar...

Frank Zappa on Guitar with Jean-Luvc Ponty on violin, in the parody of The Devil Came Down From Georgia.  I guess I can't say the title, but it is about bargaining for two things a biker likes more than his soul, T...ies and Beer.

The other Bob Rivers songs I listed, that were deleted due to censorship... apparently. I don't know it it was the Michael Jackson song, or the parody of I'll be home for Christmas, but I can avoid this if I ever find out.

Interestingly, The song Dinah Moe Hum had three stand in female singers who sang the chorus, "I got a spot that gets me hot... but you ain't been to it..."  They were paid under $200 each for their work on this fantastic album, Overnight Sensation...

During the disco era, Frank Zappa had a great album titled Sheik Yerbouti.  Not only did he dress as a Sheik, we all learned that it was actually pronounced "Shake", as in Your Boooty.
