Negotiate good price Any decent salesperson would have asked, "What do you have in mind?"This one might have been working for a dealer with lots of tire kickers. My local store has Saturday's reserved for appointments. I like the idea, because it keeps you out, so we ...
1st Album you Ever Owned? When I finally upgraded my RCA 45 rpm record changer powering jukebox innards to a Magnavox suitcase portable, a Roger Williams LP was on the turntable. I made the salesman give it to me.
New Tinnitus study and possible treatment (via Science Daily) Not having this equipment, I cranked up some Pink Floyd and stuck my tongue in a wall outlet. There is no tinitis now!
Do you use a Subwoofer when listening to stereo? I run a pair of subs with nmtched amp and preamp to my main speakers. It allows me to listen to music I would otherwise avoid, since I have no tone controls Mainly old LP's.
Are there any tube amps that don't give off any--- Tube amps and Class A transistor amps run full steam 100% of the time. You must decide whether the sound is good enough now, or with an added noisy A/C unit cooling your tubes.
Can I use 24 gauge speaker cable? As long as you use no more than the speaker uses, a few inches.
why a 75 dollar blue ray smokes all 2k CD players and any turntable??? I tried a Blu Ray player for audio, and was pleasantly surprised at how good it sounded. I removed it and went back to my better sounding CD player. My speakers are good enough to tell the difference between amps and pre-amps, and especially betwe...
A real "wake up call" available to most....High End Audio vs. Mainstream...... This is a serious question: Decades ago, when I first discovered high end audio, I auditioned Rotel and did not care for it. Recently, I decided to give a good listen to a Rotel preamp and CD player. It was truly horrible sounding, akin to my f...
Keith Jarrett on the importance of audio sound quality Speaking of Keith Jarrett and sound quality, I still wish there were no tics and pops on my multi-album solo concert of his from the 1970's. In this respect, the CD is definitely more pleasing.
Can anyone recommend an FM Receiver that would play into a relatively high end system? Although the sound is most certainly inferior to my best FM tuners, I still love the jazz station on my Polk Sirius/XM satellite tuner (or my pal's Marantz). Quality programming can supercede a loss in accuracy, and this station does just that, t...
Can anyone recommend an FM Receiver that would play into a relatively high end system? Interestingly, only my best pre-amp demonstrated the very slight advantage in sound of the bass from the B&K over the KT-917.
Can anyone recommend an FM Receiver that would play into a relatively high end system? There are a lot of excellent FM tuners. See fmtunerinfo.com Shootouts page. As a project, I bought a few to see if I agreed, or maybe wanted to upgrade to. Despite really trying to contradict the findings, just for fun I tell you, I found that ...
Best 40 to 50k used speakers Astounding!?! Let's ask someone to tell us how to buy a $50,000 speaker without listening to it. Do you have ears?
Your most indispensable "tweak"? I wired in a double pole double throw switch to sometimes bypass my sub crossover. This allows a lot of harmonics to be added to old LP recordings that are otherwise terrible sounding.
Frustrated McIntosh Owner I just looked it up and was wrong. |
