The NAD M33 will cancel your complaints about Class D
Several of you are leaning toward NAD.  I had a 2200 PE or something like that, 100 wpc.  I liked that it was very clean sound, with no tonal imbalances.  I did not like all of the instruments and voices coming from the exact same place, making it...
High end Class D amps?
RE:  Which of the following amps do you guys recommend for bluorion, who stated he "Can't afford" high end amps?  Bel CantoJeff RowlandSpecMarantz ReferenceLyngdorf
TONEARM DAMPING : DAMPED OR NOT ? ? USELESS ? ? WELCOMED ? ?
Spring loaded anti-skating mechanisms actually provide some damping. I prefer my fluid damped arms, but the engineering is the real key.  I added a bit of very thick fluid to the "razor" bearing of a pal's Grace 707, and it did smooth it it a bit.
Analog vs digital?
My friends $25,000 TT blows away his $500 CD player.  Another friends $5000 CD player certainly sound better than his Grace TT (rebadged Planar 9), Grace 707 arm, and Grace F-9 cartridge, but not by as much as I would have thought.
New speakers. New room.
All of my electronics are in another room, my ex-laundry room.  This hides everything, and provides a dedicated 110v 20 amp washer outlet. Of course, my garage lights now dim a bit, to the cadence of the pulsing agitator.
What's wrong with my speaker?
Pressing on the driver can change the alignment while you press, and it can limit the travel.  You might actually try an ageing woofer trick. Put the speaker in upside down.  I have seen (i.e. heard) this realign a sagging suspension enough to cur...
What's wrong with my speaker?
Either the voice coil is rubbing, or the speaker is traveling out of its intended  range of motion, or both  I once bught a set of B&W DM 14's which had tweeters substituted from a cheaper speaker.  They looked identical until I removed them. ...
Whats your favourite track to play to the non hi-fi visitor?
I prefer to play an entire album, rather that show what a nerd I really am, and run off friends.
Why is black so popular for components?
Easier to mask manufacturing defects.  I wanted wood color 803's but could not pass up a deal on black ones.  My 40 year old stand mount B&W's are much better looking, with beautiful wood.
A new way of adjusting anti skate!
I like the directions that came with an old pal's Grace tonearm and cartridge.  Look at the stylus and adjust the anti-skate until the cantilever stays straight when playing.  We did this, and guess what?  Some recordings, such as Sheffield D to D...
The Great Cartridge Shootout
Despite owning to really good cartridges, two really good TT's, and three quite good arms, you make me appreciate CD's.
How it works! From a common man.
The longer we listen to something, the more we mask out what we do not like, and focus on what we do like.  This is called "Break In", but it is our ears, not the equipment.  BTW,  AC current is "ALTERNATING back and forth.  I welcome an explanati...
$10K Budget for Speakers: Martin Logan Masterpiece vs Tannoy
Islandmandan: Nor Martin Logan's, if he really thinks they can fill a movie theater.  maybe he means, home theater.
Speaker Positioning
millercarbon is right, but for kicks and giggles. I want to add:  Not all rooms are symmetric in design or furnishings.  A little compensation can be added, for example, for a big Sofa on one side of the room, a large mirror or door, etc.  Listen!
Cartridge reliability
My 40 year old Supex, Shure, Audio Technica, Stanton, Signet and Grace cartridges still work like new, except of course for stylus wear.  Unfortunately, the actual stylus diamond just disappeared from my Yamaha MC9.  I reset everything on my turnt...
