The guru on fuses:
nonoise  Of course you are right; However, too many of the fuse people, (and especially the wire trestle people, seem to go on faith, especially the naysayers, a group I may have belonged to for too long.  I am still waiting to hear the difference...
The guru on fuses:
millercarbon  RE: "I am always amazed how people..." and others:   Read the entire article.  Too many people just read and comment on the parts that they think they already know.
The guru on fuses:
roxy54  No, John Curl did not design McIntosh products, but he used for the system.  He designed the crossovers, and worked with two other engineers on the monitor less dual microphone system (wired and positioned out of phase with each other to r...
The guru on fuses:
For those of you who think you are authorities, and especially for those of you who only read the half paragraph on fuse measurements, READ THE WHOLE ARTICLE!  The gist is neither that fuses matter or don't, even though his explanation clearly sho...
Best type of metal for turntable platform?
As in most of life, there is no best anything.
Dedicated power
Even without considering any electrical pollution from lights, etc,  it will help.  When I wired the outlet for my system, I used a 30 amp breaker and 10 gauge wirimg.  A second amp really made more difference, but a 20 amp breaker with 12 gauge w...
Ribbon Tweeters and Animal Hair
baylinor   I like your thinking, but must digress:  Some music sounds better with the grills on; some doesn't.  My tone controls:  Soft, concave blinds shut, grills on: Least treble.  Hard convex blind side showing, grills on; more treble... brigh...
Acoustic treatment question: do you agree with Dennis Foley that $46k to $65k is required?
Those must be some terrible speakers to need this much.
Two subwoofers for two channel music listening
Since my speakers are in a slightly recessed open room, and face a much bigger room,  I measuered and phase aligned my subs, with the towers on top.  This works side by side, too. Maybe human hearing is not very directional at low frequencies, but...
Audio Lessons Learned - post your best advice for the newer members!
McIntosh is truly great, for many people.  You can save a fortune on speakers, because accuracy is not the object.  I like accuracy, but still admit the greatest sound system ever built was powered by McIntosh.  The Grateful Dead's Wall of Sound g...
Has anybody bought or heard a Chinese knock off amplifier?
hiendmmoe  I must respond:  Yes, China is beginning to sends rovers to extraterrestrial bodies.  There are no parts available to US (or British, etc) designers that the Chinese cannot get, especially since they manufacture for many American compan...
HOW MUCH DO NON-AUDIO FACTORS INFLUENCE YOUR AUDIO PURCHASES?
Just like many Walmart shoppers, of which I am certainly not,  if an audio product from China were good enough and the right price, I might try it, but so far, all of my electronics are American or Canadian, and my speakers are British, with ...

audio2design   What part of the news programs that reported on catch bets being placed on the ground below multi-floor factories in China did you miss?  I can't imagine that workers are jumping out of windows to end their lives if their labor is n...
Does it annoy you when companies don't show the internals of electronics ?
They were just too lazy to help.
Craigslist Fraud
Craigslist scam with happy ending:  I live a little north of Fort Lauderdale. One day, I saw some B&W 803's (One missing tweeter) with an opening bid of $400 requested.  I was certain it was a scam, but it was close enough to go there to pick ...
