Cassandra Wilson She has a special voice and Blue Note records has done a good job in their recording quality. I have, and enjoy, both "New Moon Daughter" and "Traveling Miles." I have not heard any others.
What is a "Redbook" CD player? I am no expert, but I stayed in a Holiday Inn once, and I think some of you are wrong on the capabilites, tapped and UNtapped, within the "redbook" format. I use a DVD transport that can send 24/96 if the disc is encoded as such. I also use a Bel ...
Why are optical cables jitter prone? My toslink connection between a Pioneer DVD player and Bel Canto DAC1 works very well. There is some info on the Bel Canto site on their theories as to jitter reduction. Stan Warren also agrees that it is jitter reducing in this type application. ...
DVD s reading CD-R s and CD-RW s My Pioneer DV525 has read all brands of CDR's fed it. I have not tried CDRW's. It did pop a bit on a computer generated CD, though. I should admit they were burned on Pioneer machines, as well.
Before They Were Famous Tubegroover, were you looking for the "Allman Joys?"I saw Elvin Bishop at my undergrad college auditorium, (actually let him in the side door to the auditorium before the show, as none of the yankees there in Kentucky recognized him.) Wait... damn...
The universal language? Man! I love that Kepa Junkera disc set. That accordian really pops, and many of the cuts are meshed well with a more modern feel, so you get a bit of it all. (One of the discs has various guests on differing cuts and makes for a great combo.) The ...
Best transport for Bel Canto Dac1 Update to above....the toslink recommended is by Audio One and the 2 meter is $139. The boys at Fatwyre say this one is great with the DAC1 and the MSB dac.
Best transport for Bel Canto Dac1 I have had couple of long conversations with Stan Warren (SuperMods) and, I must admit, most of it went right over my head [:)]. He does a lot of mods to DVD players and SACD players, and thinks the Pioneer DVD players are well laid out and a very...
Room too small - any suggestions My experience with the Harbeth C7 ES, (as well as some other Harbeth users with less than "ideal" listening areas that I have talked to,) has not been what Paul relates. The design of this speaker was for use in the sound mixing rooms of BBC engin...
Room too small - any suggestions Hello fellow small roomer. First, I think Paulwp should be shot at dawn. [:)] Garfish is the man. You need a great monitor. I use, and love, the Harbeth C7ES. It is within your price range and will create (recreate) your beloved jazz collection to...
Best female vocals on CD Recently have been enjoying Aimee Mann's "Magnolia" soundtrack. If you like Lucinda Williams, you should really like this as well.
audiophile quality multi -disc CDP s? In a discussion with Stan Warren at Supermods, he reminded me of the $100 AIWA 37M 5 disc changer that is supposed to be a (giant) killer transport. That should leave some wiggle room for a good outboard DAC and cables. [:)]
dire straits -what to buy Add one more to these good suggestions: Mark Knopfler's solo "Golden Heart." HDCD recording with some very strong cuts.
Is my Salesman telling the Truth? Kelly, sometimes I have to "hold my tongue" and walk away in many cases because if I get started I may not have the control to hold back if things get heated and the bullshit is flying out of some fool's mouth. I am very passionate about the truth...
Is sound "additive"? This is not an additive hobby. I can keep it to under 16 hours a day. No problem. Well, Ok, Fridays I listen 17-18 hours, and Wed about 20, but I'm good on Thurs and hold it to 16. But that doesn't make it additive. What do *ewe* tink, dude? |
