Opinions on Glass Shelves
Thanks for posting, Jmstogo! Can you give us a brief description of what the laminates look like and/or the process to make these shelves? I'm not looking for secrets, just trying to get a mental image of these shelves.
Help me fix my cartridge
You'll have to go online to get taps that small. Here is one place, for example.precision tapsThen again, many cartridges are attached with a screw and nut. Just be careful not to over-tighten.

Interesting. Did Tri rewire yours?

No, not sarcasm. I'm just passing along what Yip told me when I said almost the same thing you did. But that doesn't mean you have to. If you're satisfied that you can't improve on what you have now, or just don't want to try, that is ok. It is en...
Choice of turntable ,tone arm and cartridge
Be prepared for a list of everyone else's TT choice. ;-) You can check my system page for my choice. What kind of music do you listen to most? Do you like a warm, lush sound? Do you prefer a neutral sound? Do you want to hear the micro-details? How...

Viper, as Yip would say, if you have only spent 15 minutes adjusting your alignment there is no way it is as good as it can be. Keep trying grasshopper. (OK, the grasshopper part was mine.)
Anyone using BillyBags for a TT stand?
IME, granite sucks. It rings and this caused HF smearing with my TT. It may sound different than MDF but both are not that good for shelves. What I did find to work well with granite was to put Stillpoints between the granite and TT. This may be a...

do yourself a favor get the Triplanar wired with another kind of wire. The stock wire they use (Cardas?) is very soft sounding (Cardas?) the arm is great the wireing NOT!I could not disagree with you more on this issue. I believe the wire that is ...
Help me fix my cartridge
Finding taps that size is not a problem, but finding extractors that size may be tough. It is going to be really tough to fix the cartridge correctly while it is still attached to the tonearm. It may be worth trying to contact Peter at SoundSmith ...
Opinions on Glass Shelves
This doesn't sound like your average glass shelf. There is not much info on the Billy Bag's site but they do refer to 1" thick glass shelves. I'm guessing that the cracked glass provides a very large number of random surfaces to break up/slow down...
Anyone with Rhea and Shelter 501MkII?
According to the info at the cartridge database, the loading should be 100 ohms or greater. I suggest trying the settings on the Rhea, I can't remember what the built-in loads are, around this value. Listen for the changes in HF and LF and pick on...
Phono Preamp Suggestions?
What Darkmoebius said. I have owned BAT, EAR, and Classe. I would add to his list Hagtech and K&K Audio. Even if you are not into DIY. You can have the preamp built for you, or build it yourself if you are able.Even so, since you are searching...
Phono Preamp Suggestions?
IMO. The path you are on is full of compromises. I don't care what any HT guru tells you, HT gear is not going to do 2 channel as well and especially not vinyl. But, it is your system and your budget and you are the one who needs to be happy with t...
Galibier questions
I've tried Stillpoints under my Gavia as a means of decoupling it from the granite shelf of my TT stand. It helped clear up the HF smear but at a cost of reduced LF impact. This also required adding spacers to the spikes that the motor pod sits on...

Sonofjim,Once I attempted to clean my platter surface with a little Simple Green and it left a little discoloration in the graphite. Based on that experience I chickened out on trying the Goo Gone. I have done some testing with Kleenex and I can't...
