EAR 834P + Bent Audio Stepups = greatness?
Mm2550, I understand what you are saying about incremental mods. I've done them myself and done them on the 834. The mods do help make it sound better, but not great. IMO, putting the MUs in front of the EAR is like putting a rose between your nos...
EAR 834P + Bent Audio Stepups = greatness?
Just because it has a FET stage doesn't mean it will sound good or sound the best or even sound better than stepups. There is a lot more to getting a FET gain stage to sound as good as a stepup than just building the circuit. However, if it is don...
EAR 834P + Bent Audio Stepups = greatness?
Now lack of enthusiasm for the Bent Mu here. I don't own a stepup now because I don't need one. But I have heard how good the original MU sounds when setup well and they don't come around very often on the used market. I know John Chapman has been...

Mgreene, I hope you enjoy your 834 for many year to come.
Upgrade for users of 1/2" mylar belt
You guys have fun out there in Denver! Anne and I just can't seem to work out the RMAF dates with our schedules.
EAR 834P + Bent Audio Stepups = greatness?
Mgreene, we seem to have a disconnect. My comments were directed to the 834P that the OP asked about. He asked if the MUs added to the 834P would equal "greatness". Well, ok, that is subjective. IMO and IME, my answer is still no. You seem to want...
EAR 834P + Bent Audio Stepups = greatness?
Sonofjim, my comments were based on what I thought was your budget. I don't know exactly what Raul and Jose are selling the Essential for, but it is well north of $10K. Well north.Sorry, I didn't mean you weren't somehow good enough to own it.

$5 grand? Forget it, it is out of your league. :-)
EAR 834P + Bent Audio Stepups = greatness?
Mgreene, NO offense meant, but I think you should back off on Raul's full function preamp. I have heard it, seen it, felt it, over a year an a half ago and I understand that there have been some improvements made as Raul and Jose keep working on i...
Amp burn in time..just being on or music played?
With most amps merely having them on will exercise the bias circuits and open the path through the amp's channel. But there is very little signal (just noise) passing through so all of the components in the signal path aren't being worked, especia...
How Should We Clean A New Record?
Maybe it is an urban myth, maybe it is not. I have read Stan's comments and others on this. There seems to be no evidence that mold release agents were used with modern pressings, but there is also no evidence that proves these agents were never u...
Premier Record Cleaner, How to use
Ok, I didn't recognize the company. I just know it by Premier and I keep a can of it myself. That stuff contains highly volatile (that means it evaporates really fast) chemicals so the crud is still left behind on the lp. I prefer to follow the ap...
Premier Record Cleaner, How to use
It doesn't remove mold release. It breaks the bond with the lp so it can be cleaned off.
Premier Record Cleaner, How to use
Premier, no. I don't know about the Microcare. Premier is used to get mold release agents off of new vinyl and does little or nothing for all of the other crud you find on used records. It should always be followed by a good lp cleaner and a rinse...
Heaver grade vinyl vs Standard
In general, I say no. However I do buy them when I can't find or afford an original. Be careful with jazz re-issues. There are some that were not pressed well and have quality issues.
