Hi efficient speaker, bass problems
My position is that many speakers have bass problems regardless of design or rating.I have a pair of Aerial 10ts that are about 6 dB down at 21 Hz, and are rated at 87 dB. They do the fast, punchy bass. I also have pairs of mid-bass and bass horns...
Why the obsession with the lowest octave
:-) Hook up a spectrum analyzer. It would probably shock you to think that there is sometimes bass content in some cymbal whacks.
Am I the only one who thinks B&W is mid-fi?
Did you look to see how old this thread is? :-)
Replace wall wart to Simaudio LP3
The power supply to a phono stage doesn't have to handle big fluctuations in voltage and power drawI know a few designers who would strongly disagree with that. ;-)It is not worth spending $700 to replace a wall-wart. As was mentioned to you on AA...
Why the obsession with the lowest octave
Can't say for others but I "get" the harmonic content from mathematics. You guys are all free to believe what you want and setup your systems any way you see fit.
Considering analog...but nervous
fatgh0st, is there anyone close to you that can help you? What would you do if you had a turntable sitting in front of you right now? If you are going to risk your money on something you know very little about, please find help beyond just posting...
Why the obsession with the lowest octave
To ignore the range from 20 to 40 Hz is to deny the FACT that there are harmonics down in that range that do affect realistic music reproduction. Not to mention that there are also ques down there that give us the impression of a large hall for ex...
Who are these crazy people?
Thanks for sharing this, Ncarv! Hey, remember when the FM stations used to do this? Play an entire album side with no breaks. Brilliant!
Suggestions on cartridge upgrade
Ok. You don't like the Dynavector sound, but you do like the Goldring. I get the feeling you may be better off with an MM/MI cartridge. Can you tell us what it is you would like to improve? What is it about the sound you get now that you would lik...
Hi efficient speaker, bass problems
I am not sure what you're asking. Your title says hi efficient but your post mentions low efficient speakers not having a grip on the bass. My experience tells me that bass control is a function of the amp, and preamp to an extent. I use very hi-e...

How to measure tonearm effective mass
Yes, thanks Lewm. I should have added, "adjusted to some degree", or some such. ;-)
Music to soothe the mid-winter soul
Hey, I'm just trying to pep all us old guys up. :-)
The Order of Obsolescence
It makes sense. Where is the market competition the stiffest? At the bleeding edge. The old market technology is not competing for the dollars in the faster pace new market. I'm thing of the fights like betamax and vhs, hdtv format wars, etc. At l...
