MMF 5 or 7?
If you can find a used 7 I think that would be one of the better values from Music Hall. I bought one used and I have since rewired it with better wires and RCA connectors. That's about as much upgrading as you can do to one of these tables. This ...
Music Hall or Rega TT
I'll throw in my .02 as an owner of a MMF-7. I bought the table used and have been pretty satisfied with its performance. I have seen many Music Hall owners post that they are very satisfied with them and don't plan on ever changing out their tabl...
Getting into analog is tough....
Match,If I thought about music reproduction the way you describe it in your original post I would probably sell all of my software and equipment and buy one of those iPods and just download 1s and 0s off some website. What the hell, it all sounds ...
How much does rock-solid speed stability cost?
Nighthawk,I also use the v15vxmr and have noticed the difference the tracking force can make when using the stabilizer. I could be way off, but I think of it much like the loading of the suspension on a car. I think of the little brush as a spring...
My Dumb Question of the Day
Just remember, we only hear a small section of the spectrum. Who is to say that CDs don't also make sound when the laser displaces photons. If a CD plays in the forest and no one is there to hear it, does it really make sound? :)
Cleaning Records
I will second the plans for DIY cleaner that Teres points to. I built one myself using the guts from a Hoover upright. Loud as hell but it does a great job. Mine is a manual spin. I am keeping my eye out for a disposable TT that I can snatch the p...
And now, back to my missing channel problem. . .
Yep, the problem does seem to be in the wiring even though there are no obvious signs of damage or loose connections. If I can make contact with Percy Audio (seems he is hard to get in touch with) I should be able to get everything I need in one p...
mmf-5 arm adjustment
Boxingnum,I'm assuming that you are talking about horizontal in the axis of the tonearm. I'm not familiar with the project 1.2 arm, but if it is similar to the project 9 on my MMF 7, there may be an Allen screw hidden under the stem for the anti-s...
And now, back to my missing channel problem. . .
Thanks Tom. I've developed a technique of twisting instead of pulling that seems a bit gentler. :)I would like to rewire the tonearm anyway to get rid of the lump of glue. I have been poking around here and on the Asylum looking for any posts by s...
Is it the tube pre or the rca/xlr adapter?
Tom,The BAT, more specifically the vk50se, does not have any single ended inputs or outputs, so I am now using the adapters at the BAT input to change from the RCA-ended cables from the 834P to the balanced inputs on the BAT. Sorry if I didn't exp...
Is it the tube pre or the rca/xlr adapter?
Marakanetz,My 834P is not the Signature model. It has no volome pot, just the MC stepups. I may get the 834P caps modded in the future and perhaps I could add balanced outputs at that time if that can be added and if the cost is not prohibitive.
Is it the tube pre or the rca/xlr adapter?
Thanks for the suggestions! I do like the overall sound that I am getting. Cymbol rolls are crisp and you can really hear them ring. The LF is not what I am used to from a solid pre, but I don't need to hear the foundation vibrate. Imaging is much...
Is it the tube pre or the rca/xlr adapter?
CRAP!I was listening tonight and one channel dropped out. The last time this happened I checked all of the IC connections and after this showed no solution, I disconnected all 4 leads from the cartridge. After re-connecting these both channels wor...
Turntable - Where do I start ?
My .02 as a "Vinyl Prodigal's Son". You already have a great analog front end, so put half to 3/4 of your budget into a good phono stage. As for the TT, you mention that you want to listen from time to time so I would start conservatively. But the...
Has anyone mixed SS and tube amps in one system?
Thanks for the responses! I'm not sure about the Vandy 4A's specifically, but it seems that I recall the Vandy's being somewhat inefficient, as are my 10t's. I suppose I came upon this configuration idea as a way to help insure that I could feed t...
