BEST Digital Cable
Lots of fine opinions here. I would also suggest you contact the Cable Co and ask them. http://www.fatwyre.com/ or call them at 800 328-9973 I am currently auditioning some Balanced digital cables from them and they are a great resource.
Upsampling and Stereophile
Garfish, Sorry – I hope I didn't come across the wrong way. I agree it's a very confusing topic. I think that maybe the manufactures kinda got caught off guard by the whole upsampling thing. Stereophile to their credit reported what they heard abo...
Upsampling and Stereophile
As an owner of the dCS Purcell and Delius I am both spoiled and biased. Robert Stuart's (Meridian) letter in the same issue is also very interesting reading. Even if we agree that upsamplers and oversampling are the "same" thing - it's really a mu...
Golden Tube: need Schematic & Parts.Help
Well seeing as Golden Tube has disappeared from the face of the earth you might want to try the "unofficial" golden tube mailing list at http://golden_tube.listbot.com Maybe someone that list could point you at a supplier. Also there is the possib...
amp for B &W 801
While I have not heard it, some people on this site say the Wolcott Presence Monblocks can handle a speaker load like the 801. When I get around to auditioning amps for my 802N the Wolcott is on the list as a tube candidate. - Cheers, Dan.
DIY Power Cable Advise Needed
Suffice to say the cable is shielded and braided. I was just worried about crimping vs soldering in this application. Without going into details about the cable I was just wondering if somebody else has come across a good crimping technology for t...
Voltage Regulators
A voltage Regulator is just what is says it is. It maintains a constant voltage given a range of input voltages. In this case it specifies 80-130 VAC. The question becomes - what is this solving for your system? I am not sure about the claim on th...
CAL Audio Alpha DAC
Fpeel, That's what I thougt. I own a Delta and used to own a Alpha until I sold it here in favor of a dCS Delius. The CAL Delta/Alpha combo is a classic. Best of luck, Dan
GOlden Tube Problems
Are you sure you biased the tubes correctly. I think they should be set to 640 mV. I have 6L6 in my Golden Tube and I actually had to add a resistor in the bias circuit to get the tubes to bias correctly. But my SE40's are an older model, so this ...
Why lots of B&W Nautilus for sale used?
Subaruguru have you read the review in Audio Review Magazine (Feb '99). They actually measured the speakers with a TEF20 and spent time using them and positioning them correctly in the room and they raved about N802. I read the Sensible Sound Revi...
CD Transport to DAC Timing/Jitter
If my memory serves me right one of the Stereophile Test Disks (I think it's #2) has an example of what jitter sounds like. But Redkiwi is correct. To me it sounds like the digital glare of the first CD players. Cheers, Dan
Why lots of B&W Nautilus for sale used?
I have a pair of N802 about 8.5' apart and they integrate beautifully. I can't say enough positive things about them.
CAL Audio Alpha DAC
Fpeel, Correct me if I am wrong, but the Delta is still only putting out a 44.1 KHz 16bit signal. The upgrade to the Alpha I don't think has "upsampling" to 24/96. So the Alpha convert the 44.1/16 signal only. Now there might be the question of so...
Proac and Golden Tube SE-40
Tee557, Can't speak about the GT/Proac combo but I have two SE40 (not SE) as monoblocks attached to a pair of 802N. I have modified my SE40's to accept the Svetlana 6L6GC from the tubestore (3 Sets of Matched Quads). Also I tracked down 4 vintage ...
Top Ten Speaker Cables of all time?...
Snook, Don’t know if you were kidding or not, but The Cable Co has Purist Cables. I have a couple of Digital cables coming my way from them. If you are willing to pay 5% of the retail price (non-refundable, but applicable toward a future purchase)...
