Stereo Tube Amp Comparisons I would go with the CJ hands down............But that's me.Chuck
What to update first: pre or power amp? I am in the exact opposite camp as Stehno........Oh well such is life. The pre-amp has always had the biggest impact on my sytems performance, all things being equal, except for perhaps the speakers. However, having said that either component you ...
Wadia 861, Levinson 390S, or EMC1MKII I would not consider any of them. If they do not have high rez capability they are a dinosaur. Read past threads concerning Wadia's customer service.Chuck
Vinyl, should I take the plunge? I agree with Elizabeth. You can always sell it if you don't like it. I for one would never consider vinyl SACD is simply to good and in many cases better than vinyl (my opinion)and much more convenient. In order to get the kind of performance SACD...
What Do You Get When You Spend Megabucks? stehno and herman have said it most eloquently.C-
Floating ground: Any danger? Alternatives? You are fine if all you need to do is float the ground on the CD player.
Amp for Thiel 2.3s. Anyone use Classe with them? I use Conrad Johnson MF2500A ss amp and 16lsII tubed pre-amp with my Thiel 3.6s and feel it is a very good match. I can not comment on the sound of Classe. Good LuckChuck
CJ Premier 17LS2 vs Premier 16LS2? I upgraded from an original 17ls to a 16lsII and the difference was amazing substantially more detail and bass control. In my opinion worth the substantial higher cost to upgrade. Although I have not heard the 17lsII the circuitry is very similar ...
would you bother? I guess I should qualify my answer. Personally I would not because of all the maintenance issues associated with vinyl. On top of the cost of good quality vinyl(180g-250g) about $40.00 a pop. SACD is just to good for me to even consider getting in...
would you bother? NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Redbook for the long haul Sony SCD-1 or777es.
Aethetix Calypso or CJ Prem 17LS2 The 16lsII is more detailed and a better sounding unit than the 17lsII. At the prices that current 16lsII are going for I would jump on one. Remember the 16lsII retailed for $8350 and has 6 signal tubes in its circuitry the 17 lsII has 4 and is no...
Did you ever just want to simplify? Yes, I have thought about a couple of low powered tube mono-bloc set amps with high efficency monitors. Although I don't think my system today is that complicated; amp/pre-amp, cd player and speakers. However; the speakers (thiel 3.6's) are rather...
Good Amp/Preamp for "bright " Thiel 3.6 speakers ? I am driving my 3.6's with all Conrad Johnson electronics Premier 16lsII tubed pre with a MF2500A ss amp. I love the combination very much, huge soundstage with great depth and no harshness but substantial detail; especiall after the "A" upgrade t...
Is there a SS amp that can offer tube bliss? I would seriously consider one of Conrad Johnson's SS amps very musical and very tube like in their delivery.Chuck |
