Speaker Effeciency and Bass Production Really, probably pretty expensive?
Speaker Effeciency and Bass Production Good point!! It is a Vintage Conrad Johnson Premier 1, about 20 years old, but very good sound and power, 200 Watts per channel, which you aren't going to get with the SET/OTL. However, I was also using the same setup with a Rogue stereo 90 in Tri...
Clarinet concertos anyone? I second Schipo's selection and it is Alfred Prinz. On my particular disc, Prinz is accompanied by Karl Bohm and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. It is on Deutsche Grammophon #429 816-2. This is a great disc because it also includes Mozart's KV3...
Tube vs Tran Many of us have had both SS and tubed equipment. Each offers it's own unique sound characteristics. On top of that you can alter the sound of tubed equipment by simply using different tubes. As far as I an concerned, Solid State is done when you b...
Speaker Effeciency and Bass Production Usually when a subwoofer is integrated into a system, the lower octaves are not going to the speakers anyway. In my setup, both my pre amp and power amp are connected to a powered subwoofer and the speakers are connected to the power amp, not the ...
Bi-wired vs Single Termination I believe that a cable that is a true Biwire design is supposed to split and direct the audio frequency between the two pairs of speaker connectors. One pair is supposed to have the low end frequencies and the other should have the mid and upper f...
Tubes to solid state for amplifier path... Although Class A power amps are known for their great sound, they are very inefficient and will use a lot of power even when idling. It will be hot!! You may want to consider a Class A/B power amp which switches from Class A to Class B when full c...
Which 6SN7's for Rogue 99 Pre Pretty hard to beat either your Sylvania VT231's or the Kenrad's mentioned by sugarbrie. If you feel like experimenting a bit, you might want to try some 5692 tubes, which are in the 6SN7 family tree. I have used them with very good results, I per...
Why do amps sound different? Kirkus, How did the loudspeaker designers gain enough leverage to make demands on amplifier designers?
Balanced Cables I have seem plenty of XLR interconnects for sale here on Audiogon. There are some written articles that contend that XLR is only superior to RCA when the interconnect lengths are 10ft or more. Anyone else read or hear anything such as this? I thin...
EQ before Preamp? Okay Bob, I guess I was weirding out last night, my apologies to you. I understand what you are saying and in a tape loop, I am still not sure that the siganl is first presented to the preamp. Anyway, what I am saying is that when the setup has th...
EQ before Preamp? Bob I'm getting a bad vibe from you question. Are you planning on using an equalizer or are you already set up with one in a way that is different from what was suggested by Jaybo and myself? Are you an engineer? I can't figure why you are calling...
EQ before Preamp? Like Jaybo said, the equalizer needs to receives the audio signal from the preamp in order for it to be functional. The equalizer cannot receive the audio siganl if it is before the preamp.
Which channel gets the vocals on Nowhere Man? Bill, I already performed that investigation and I have had this occur in 2 different cars and only noticed it because I am a huge Beatles fan and am so familiar with their music. The strange thing is that when I play the Rubber Soul CD in the car...
Determine final guage? Yo2tup, Using Tvad's sleeve calculator would imply that the total of all 3 gauges makes it a 10 gauge. If each conductor is 10 gauge, per the sleeve calculator, it would be considered a 6 gauge wire. Hey Tvad thanks for the calculator!!! |
