Blue Collar Cables? The great debate Haven't heard all of the cables mentioned, but the Anticables is an excellent choice. Most of us have been down the road before of assuming more expensive = better. Heed the concise and well stated advice of jdombrow.
What interconnects work best with Audio Research? Buy a used pair of Cardas Golden Cross. They worked well with my Audio Research preamp. They will provide good soundstage and detail are somewhat cooler than the Cardas Cross which I think you would find to be too warm.
Do amps sound better when left on for 30 minutes ? I have a tubed amp and preamp and they always sound better after a warmup time of 30-60 minutes.
What to do with bad recorded CDs I usually have the artist rerecord the material:) I am assuming that by poor performance, you mean that the CD sound quality is bad and not that the artist himself/herself gave a bad performance. I usually apply some ultra vivid or other treatment...

Tube Question - Do they need time to "Break In" Johnny I have an Audio Research tubed preamp and it has a 45 second power up before you can actually play it, however, the owners manual actually states that the preamp will sound better if warmed up for an hour, which it does!

Tube Question - Do they need time to "Break In" My preamp takes about an hour before it sounds best too. I think the warmup period is not for the tubes, but for the other electrical components within the preamp.

Opposite effect with cardas/Ayre CD Overhang, Sorry you are having such a bad experience with the Cardas Disc. I think you should call MD, they are pretty good. I purchased that Marigo CD mat a few years ago and it didn't work for my system. In fact, it made it sound like your descr...
Opposite effect with cardas/Ayre CD It works for me. However, the first time I used it, I stayed in the room while it was doing it's thing and my gear did not sound right either, mainly because the disc messed with my hearing for a while. If you were in the room, this may have happe... |
