My endgame system I think
@ronboco The EtherREGEN is in the audio path for any music you Stream (eg. Qobuz, TIDAL, Spotify) or any music you may have locally ripped that resides on a computer or hard drive that's on your home Ethernet network.  The EtherREGEN isn't in the ...
My endgame system I think
@ronboco Great choice with the Rockport Aviors.  I own Altair speakers and they're my end game speakers.  I don't understand the purpose of the Bluesound Node.  I used to own the Boulder 866 and in addition to being a great amp/preamp, the Streame...
Your thoughts on my quest for new speakers
@jcs01 Unless you like to listen to heavy metal or classic rock at high listening levels, you owe to yourself to purchase Maggie's as they sound different than box speakers.  A few years back I purchased a pair of 20.7's after auditioning the 3.7i...
What makes the biggest difference in sound quality?
@ted_denney Ted, since you framed the question to cover all the products Synergistic Research sells, I can tell you that the Shunyata cables and power distribution devices I recently purchased made a significant SQ improvement over your cables and...
Why recordings made before 1965 sound better.
@rvpiano Great post. I was listening to Dave Brubeck's 'Time Out' vinyl album (Columbia CS8192) which I believe is from 1961 and likely cost a couple dollars back then.  The 1st cut on side 1 (Blue Rondo a La Turk) is so lifelike you swear the mus...
another toy for those with money to burn
These may become a popular option for the electric-based exotic cars.
Not manufactured any more.
@decooney Thanks for all the pics of the ESS speakers.  I never realized they made so many models.  I used to own the AMT-1B's which I believe was basically an AMT-1A but added a rear facing 12" passive radiator.  A friend of mine also owned a pai...
AirBlade Speaker - wow
@sc2  I owned the ESS AMT-1B speakers for a long time as I used them in a 2nd home up until about 4 years ago when I sold them.  I re-foamed the 12" woofers a couple times and replaced the 12" radiators.  Always loved the sound of the Heil AMT.  Y...
AirBlade Speaker - wow
The Airblades are a variation of the Heil AMT (Air Motion Transformer) design.  In the '70's I owned a pair of ESS AMT-1B speakers that used a Heil AMT speaker as the midrange and tweeter.  It also had a 12" woofer and 12" passive radiator. Check ...
Next best exponential DAC quality level?
@martinman  There may be a couple variables in your system causing the DACs you've auditioned to sound very similar. What are you using to stream Amazon Music?  If a computer, then a general purpose computer will never sound as good as a good qual...
Uptone Audio EtherREGEN review
@andynotadam I know you posted this awhile back but I just ordered an EtherREGEN and the literature on the Uptone Audio website states there's no reason to purchase an external power supply.  Here's the ad 'Of note, UpTone has specifically designe...
Recommendations and thoughts for end game speakers and amps
@ronboco You'd be making a wise choice with the Rockport Avior ii's and the 866.  I own Rockport Altair 2's and would never let them go.  There's something very musical about speakers Andy Payor designs.  And Rockport's build quality is world-clas...
Rank the top reference DACs you've heard
The Rossini is the current sweet spot of the dCS Streamer / DAC lineup when it comes to price/performance.  The Vivaldi may be slightly better but at a considerably higher price.
Bad recordings and high end audio
@daydream816  I have a pair of Maggie 20.7's which have slightly more bottom end compared to the 3.7i's. However I still find a sub is a nice addition, especially if you plan to listen to classic rock. The REL S/812 sub mates well with Maggie's. M...
Gryphon Mephisto
@jakesnake  You mention that 'Gryphon made it very clear as to place the power supply separate from the Pandora Pre. Bigger sound stage and more separation. When Gryphon says to place the Pandora power supply separate from the Pandora pre-amp, did ...
