Active studio monitors anyone?
As you can see in my system link, I use ATC SCM 7's with a pair of Crown D-75a's as monoblocks for computer speakers on my desktop. This is in the very near nearfield and I have enjoyed them for years - in fact as much or more than any of my full s...
Active studio monitors anyone?
Further to the posts removed from this thread, I respectfully propose we no longer refer to speakers as "passive" or "active".Rather, we should allow speakers to self-identify their role in any system, and to define their relationship with the amp...
Active studio monitors anyone?
The explanation is obvious:Whether or not active monitors sound better, the audiophile will always prefer passive monitors. This way, you also get to obsess over the choice of an amplifier, or even two of them in the case of mono-blocks.
Krell KAV 300i won't Power On?
mascpNo, I did not have time to deal with it in any further detail. So sadly, sold my Krell "as is".The person who bought mine did not seem discouraged, however, and also mentioned a tech in Bridgeport CT who apparently used to work for Krell, so h...
Should we use ridiculously priced cables to listen to Rap?
Taters and his inquiries don't offend me, but I would love to know if mrtennis has any opinion on this topic.
Hi-Fi Bluetooth Music Receiver / Adaptor
I am new to Bluetooth and have experimented with a Bluetooth speaker, synchronizing it with an iPad for OK results on Netflix. As everyone on this thread would evidently know, the iPad is enabled for Bluetooth and thus able to pair itself with the ...
High End Enclosures
George,Do you also own a Vincent amp to be able to make that comparison, or is that just your impression? I was comparing photos of the Vincent to my experience owning a Levinson 23.5 for about 15 years....Further to the theory that much of the pr...
Krell KAV 300i won't Power On?
tonykaySo I spoke to Krell who indeed were helpful - thank you.As it turns out, there is a sliding fuse drawer inside the 3 pinned power socket on the rear of the amp.  One fuse completes the connection when the drawer is pushed back in, and there...
Krell KAV 300i won't Power On?
tonykay. As it has been in storage, a plausible explanation and thank you. However, I just had another memory that the last time I used the Krell, any intermittent trouble was solved when I simply unplugged and plugged back in the power cord, a bit ...
High End Enclosures
Hello everyone,Revisiting this thread as I contemplate a new, DIY project, and also admiring the beauty of the Pass Lab .5 amps, having recently sold a vintage Levinson.Out of curiosity, does anyone know if say, Pass, Roland or other beautifully h...
How long should a ribbon tweeter on Maggies last?
I have owned several pairs of Magneplanars since about 1980 and have also never heard any concerns like the one you describe.Let me guess: is your "friend" by any chance willing to sell his prominent horn and box speaker designs??
Vintage Receiver: TANDBERG, MARANTZ, or…?
What?? 18 replies and counting with no dealers yet advising that vintage gear is horribly unreliable, invariably needs new caps and in any case dramatically under performs whatever they have for sale new? Maybe Audiogon is getting back to its old ...
Fake Audiophiles
Only real audiophiles can pass double blind listening tests.

Life after ADS
It's a/d/s.As I have mentioned in other threads, my CAR system in 1980 sounded better than many home systems I have heard through the years:a Nakamichi 250 cassette player with bi amplified a/d/s 2001 speakers.
