Subwoofer recommendation for Maggie 1.6 QR If the room is small, I suggest the Velodyne SPL-800. Larger rooms go with the SPL-1000 or 1200. I tried many and the SPL's sounded and integrated the best. I wasn't surprised to see Magnapan uses a pair of SPL-800's in their surround muic system....
Men & Women & Bass My wife loves bass, we use two Velodyne HGS-18's. Larry Archibald former owner of Stereophile said low bass (30hz) often made him sick. There have been white papers written on the subject.Curt

Gradient Speakers from Finland: Opinions The revolutions are outstanding, about as good as it gets. I own the Gradient 1.3's which are discontinued. They are the best speaker I've ever heard in the two thousand dollar range. Gradient has always addressed the room interface problems so the...
4 Velodyne HGS-15's or 2 Velodyne HGS-18's? I use a pair of HGS 18's and that's what I would suggest. The HGS 18 sounds (and tests) better than any sub I know of and I've heard and tried most of whats out there. The stacked 15's might be about as good, but would not be any better.Good luck,...
Velodyne ULD-18 or Audio PHysic Rhea sub.... Mike,I've been in Audio over fifty years and have owned or listened to just about every sub out there. I've heard all the Rel's and yes the Talon and the Aerial. I wish you'd try to design a servo feedback speaker and see the difficulties involved...
Velodyne ULD-18 or Audio PHysic Rhea sub.... The Velodyne HGS series have the lowest distortion and flattest frequency response of any subwoofer. With the servo feedback system they react and decay immediately. It is the most accurate subwoofer for music or theater. Whether one likes accurat...
Want a 5 channel amp that can drive 4 ohm loads Get a used Krell KAV-500. It's in your price range, built like a tank, sounds great and loves 4ohm loads.
Recommendation for very good inexpensive 35mm SLR. I have a whole Olympus system, 2 bodies and many lenses, etc.The whole thing for $450. Great for student.Good Luck,Curt
Subwoofer placement problem solved... Yes the "opposites" approach has been around for years. It's a good tool and starting point. The above message also has good advice, however I have found the Radio Shack meter to be worthless on bass. I find my ears to be more accurate. A good (ex...
Subwoofer Blending The Velodyne's have an excellent high pass filter, the REL's don't. I'd suggest you look at the Velodyne SPL line. There's a 8", 10", and 12". The SPL 800 (8") does a great job for audio as long as you're not playing real loud. I agree that filter...
Nad or Jolida....That is the question...? The NAD's an excellent choice with those speakers. It' more accurate and will do better on the bass. Curt
Velodyne or REL or Vandersteen? Velodyne by a mile. Neither the REL or Vandy will go as deep, and when it comes to distortion it's no contest. I've tried all three. Remember a lot of audiophiles don't like deep or accurate bass, so listen and go with what you like.Curt
