Speaker for 11x12 room
On room placement I concur with Mesch…use the long wall. The piano maybe can stay, however. On speakers, the BMR Monitors seem ideal, but Totem Floorstanders like Forests are also. Revel FS226Be are another.
Recommend a non-polite sounding amp / integrated
I don’t know what Naim you tried, but to me your description of what you are looking for shouts NAIM. Try  Super Nait 3 and see.
Cost Incurred to Achieve a Vinyl LP Replay
As a man of modest means, I have recently refreshed my phono rig with a Technics  SL100C, Audio Technica OC9XML, and PhonoBox DS3, which together run $2500.00 at retail. My record library is much more valuable.
REL .LFE input
I don’t know the answer to your Speakon dilemma, but I do believe it is inadvisable to use a Y adapter from stereo pre-out to LFE in, nor would I connect one channel. The correct solution is a buffered summing circuit, but you’re going to have to ...
Coax
Often the gold outer part is just press fit onto the Jack pack. You really need to twist as you try to remove “high retention” audiophile RCA plugs…thanks, Noel Lee! If you can remove the part from your RCA plug without deforming it, you will see ...
Going from MM to MC
As a fellow PhonoBox DS3 owner, I want to mention that the balanced inputs only work with LOMC cartridges, so if the OP is getting dual XLR phono cables, a high end MM or MI is not a good choice!
Nowhere to hear speakers and amps anymore!
As an employee of such a store I can tell you that the vast variety of merchandise and easy access to information and opinions about it on the internet, and the ease with which consumers can cross shop, or worse, "showroom*" has made running a B&a...
A blowing session????
I never developed the ear for the saxophonist’s individuality as you describe it, but I do have that ear for the electric guitar masters…Clapton, Beck, Page, Green, Bloomfield or Hendrix…a few notes is all it takes. Same for Harmonica players.  Co...
Help me spend $100,000 on a new system
I think the biggest return on additional investment will come from getting speakers with an entirely different approach to sound presentation, like an omnidirectional speaker or dipole, but only if your new residence accomodates such a speaker.  Y...
Accuphase Bookshelf Speaker Pairing recommend
For compact speakers, look closely at the Dynaudio or Totem models at or near your budget. Hard to beat these brands at the 5.25” 2 way game! Bison monitors with a 30 day trial may just do it. Great amp, btw. Enjoy. note: placement is of great im...
Looking for a great phono pre-amp in the $1000 or less range
The Grace 707 arm is a low mass masterpiece, and you are better off with an appropriately compliant MM cart.  Find a Grace F9 body and buy a Soundsmith Ruby stylus for it.  A tube hybrid phono stage like the Black Ice Audio F159, or even  The budg...
Amp first approach to build a system. Anyone did it ?
To paraphrase J. Geils vocalist Peter Wolf “First I look at the room”. Then speakers.  Then…..
SACD is VERY confusing
Roy, Some SACD players’ analog outputs were not cheap.  Sony as usual launched the format with a no holds barred implementation at a hefty price, and over a few years brought it down to Earth, with attendant compromises.  HDMI 1.2a introduced DSD ...
magnepan
They are absolutely positively NOT out of business. They just introduced a new True-ribbon model at $5995.00 called the 2.7i to plug the gap between the Quasi-ribbon 1.7i and larger True-ribbon 3.7i.  As others have stated, their long time product...
Looking to upgrade from Paradigm Studio 60v5
Magnepan just revived the 2.7i 3 way at $5995.00 a pair, and it uses the true ribbon tweeter as in the 3.7i, but with a smaller bass panel. Add a REL Classic 98 sub and you are next level, under budget.
