bad cartridge or am I overlooking something?
Try switching the signal and ground connections on the right channel. Could be out of phase. I just went through a similar exp. that sounds what like you describing.
Stewart Copeland, Incredible
I believe he is a lefty playing a kit set up for someone right-handed using a traditional grip. This is part of why his drumming is unique.

>Put the damn cable in the way it sounds best, to you, and enjoy the music..I agree with you 100%
Directional interconnect cables
HA ha that is where you are wrong 04rdking, burn in has nothing to do with directionality of the wire. It most likely has to do with the last direction the wire was pulled through the dies before dielectric was applied.

Power Cord Question
As Knowthing responded it is both liability issue and a choosing sides issue. If they recommend one brand over another then you will have some mfg. happy with you and others not. If they are not aligned with any cable mfg. it is easiest to stay ne...
stranded vs. solid conductors for power cords
Oh and sorry to not answer your clamping question. If you are using an end that you clamp and do not solder in my view a stranded wire is mandatory from a safety stand point, a large solid core wire has the possibility of working loose overtime

Ok, here you go, get some solid core silver wire, (the differences are more discernable then with copper). Mark which direction it comes off the spool. Make a simple twisted pair with the return and the signal running opposite each other. Be sure ...
stranded vs. solid conductors for power cords
Solid core powercords will tend to have more impact and punch but the larger gauge cords can become very unwieldy. The higher the strand count the softer and less aggressive the presentation will become. BTW people like to give advice w/o actual e...

about to jump into the power cord foray
Listen to Blindjim (well put BTW Jim) VH Audio is a great place to start with your level of gear. Plus you can DIY all his Flavor series cords. Get a good single disc player OR the new Wadia iPod docking port (sweet and pretty inexpensive) then yo...

Cambridge 840c vs. Bryston BCD-1 vs. Ayre CX-7e
The 840c was not really close to CX-7, much less the 'e' version
Terminate This: Bare Wire vs Connectors
Spades, bare wire oxidizes and will weaken and break when clamped and unclamped in a binding post. Tinned wire will solve these issues but its actually contact area is very small in comparison with a spade.
