Mark Levinson 39
Lev, what the heck do you want? Why are you even asking the questions? You've said you're gonna get the Levinson, period. That being the case, all the rest of this is just mental masturbation, and that's probably why the respondees have been less ...
Where s the bass?
Bass will go thru anything. High frequencies are more easily defeated. Hence, it's not so much MORE bass as LESS other frequencies. There is a scientific reason, but it's too early on a Sunday morn for my brain to get that much exercise....chas
Creek 5350SE vs. Bryston B-60
Colber:I understand completely: outside the immediate environs of major cities, dealers do get mighty sparse. Put that way, grab you a Bryston and be very happy! And FWIW, I have owned and used NAD and Creek gear - at their price points they're ex...
Creek 5350SE vs. Bryston B-60
Yeah, it's still the Bryston as better choice, but are there no integrateds you can audition? What made you pick these two? Anthemn is well liked, the YBA Integre has an excellent rep, Classe builds a decent integrated or two, and NAD has some goo...
NAD 515 CD Player use with DAC
Like Doug, my 515 was a bit sharp thru my NAD integrated, so I tried it thru a Creek passive pre to my Moscode 300 hybrid tube amp - much much better. Now I'm saving my pennies for the Marsh P2000t pre and A400 amp, but I doubt I'll part with the ...
ProAc, Snell, Soliliquy, Spendor, Totem
Add me to the ProAc preferers. Did do side by each comparison of the ProAcs and the Spendors, ProAc just out and out whupped 'em. Coincidents are right up there, but I'd still go ProAc there, as well. Like Jay above, I wound up with something comp...
To Sub or not to Sub...?
Definitely sub. Just try it. Especially with classical, and particularly with organ music. It's one of those "makes a bigger difference than science can explain" kind of things, in my opinion.chas
Creek 5350SE vs. Bryston B-60
What are you planning on using for speakers, sources, etc. What are your musical preferences? Although my initial inclination favors Bryston, it depends...don't ya just hate that. So tell us a little more (like, what is your room like, what's the ...
Time for spring cleaning
Hey, no fair - you've got stuff other people would buy!! All my leftovers are so bad I'd lose money even if they sold on e-bay!chas
If you knew then, what you know now...
I wouldn't ever read another internet news group about anything audio related. I'd go into the local radio shack, buy their best middle of the road gear, and never ever find out how good music really can sound. I'd save thousands, have more time t...
85 solution for Monitor speakers
Aqsubx:I am already on record as a fan of the Silverlines (specifically the SR-17s), so I didn't want to just re-hash it, but your description "accuracy but not analytical; balanced, not boomy." absolutely describes my experience with them. And I ...
Dealer Price "Wiggle" Room
Jennie:My experience with dealers is probably not as extensive as that of the many who will no doubt respond, but I've bought a few pieces, and this is how it went: one dealer dropped 15% off his price once I hit his "magic number". Prior to that ...
Monitor Speaker Vote "Face Off"...
Pro:Here's a solution I saw recently to the "appearance problem" - the guy built a couple of small, thin legged tables that fit over the cabinet, but behind the ribbon. Actually used something like Vibrapods on the feet, in fact. The tables were s...
Audiophile spending
Abstract:Interesting post. I'm roughly 40/60, music to gear, but that includes the recent build up of a secondary system. I want to catch my breath and hear what I've assembled for a bit before doing too much more. The split is probably roughly th...
Attention Scientists, Engineers and Na-s
Superb post, Philphans!!I don't pretend to get the science behind it, but I do know from experience IC's do make a difference. I don't know that I'd notice the change if someone snuck the original ICs back on my gear, but I know for a fact that I ...
