HEY AUDIOGON, I THOUGHT YOUR RULES DISALLOWED POSTS LIKE THE ONE ABOVE. REALLY OBNOXIOUS TO GET THIS ON DISCUSSIONS. WHY NOT PUT UP A BANNER OR MAYBE NUDE DANCERS IN PHOTOGRAPHIC ANIMATION.
"Kid A" the new "Dark Side @ Moon" ?
it's dark side OF the moon (not @). glad you like kid a. i thought it sucked 'til i heard parts of it played at ces! (not EVERYONE uses classical recordings). guess i'm gonna hafta hear it again, this time on my system. so far, tho, i'll say this:...

Best sounding CD of Brass?
if you've got the right equipment, any of paul simon's last 4, among other, recordings will have great brass sound. also try brian setzer's orchestra and kid creole and the coconuts.
Rock? money down the drain?
mc2000: pardon, but this ol' bloke needs further explanation. are you speakin' of jesus rock or kiss, or both? neither? how does what you say relate to the subject of the thread? sorry, but i just don't get your point.
Gershwins Best Recording.
i really like the michael tilson thomas' "rhapsody in blue" on cbs masterworks. another excellent cd with many of the same works as the cbs is the german pressing of the royal philharmonic orchestra, also titled "rhapsody..." (rpo 8008).
Best Classical Music Conductor
if i'm not mistaken, ben zander was recently featured on 60 minutes. he's the one who makes big bucks as a corporate motivational speaker, right? (BTW, i find nothing wrong with that, especially since he uses music as his grand metaphor.)
Green Mountain Audio
over the past several years, i have seen and heard various speakers made by green mountain audio. they are made in colo springs, just down the road a piece from where i live. the designers/producers of green mountain speakers are passionate audiop...
Marsalis's horn on "JAZZ"
the monette website has a bunch of pictures of wynton's trumpet and his more recently constructed coronet. (thanks for the tip massvm.) the trumpet has the mouthpiece "built-in" and is decorated in several motifs. both of the instuments pictured a...
SACD WINS!
i just returned from ces and can tell you this: (1) there were about the same no. of rooms using sacd playback as analog; (2) i saw NO dvd-a players being used (tho i didn't visit close to all exhibitors' spaces); and (3) i bought NO rebook cd's, ...

Old Timers Advice Required
forgot to mention, i'm even older than dekay. by more than a decade. dekay, you're a mere child, despite what danvetc sez. (FWIW, danvetc is 82!)
Old Timers Advice Required
i owned the apt pre and amp and a tt/arm combo comparable to your description. this is marginally collectable gear that will sound VERY dated against current comparably-priced (dollars adjusted) gear.
What is your opinion for MIT850 shotgun?
i also own eidolons that i run with a rowland 8ti. IMO and experience, the mit wire is among the very worst you could use with these components. i recommend you try cardas neutral reference, tara (the two, one or zero) or fim gold. nbs monitor2, o...
What time do you wear?
i have just returned from ces, early unfortunately. interestingly, i had several conversations with audio friends re: the correlations between tastes for the highend and cars/watches, etc. this was recognized by mb (now, ugh, daimler benz), which ...
