Soundstage - Too much? jtinn: it's difficult for me to imagine an audio system's producing "too much soundstage." the width of the perceived image, like many other things, is affected by the quality of your components and the attributes/frailties of your listening envir...
Isolation vs. Absorbtion equa: i was hoping rekiwi would respond first to your thread query. he's shared with us in erudite posts his experiences testing "footers/shelf material." i recommend you review the thread of that name. i just wanted to comment on your observation...
Amps and Women i'm not sure whether it's better or no to live with a wife who has better ears than mine. angela100 is a special and unusual sort of woman, who not only tolerates us "guys" but is seemingly as interested in this crazy hobby as is her spouse:; in m...
rowland i agree with jtinn. i've owned jrdg gear of various series for the past 15 years and now run an 8ti. to my ears, the new model amps are just not as musical, particularly in the vital mid-range, as the older ones.
Great Beatles CD i agree with musikdok on this one. the japanese cd is the best i've heard, tho it doesn't come close to several vinyl versions. the very best recording of sgt. pepper, IMO, is the japanese mono pressed on clear red vinyl. the mofi beatle's box ver...
Shelf Material for Audio Rack redkiwi started a thread on this subject that generated numerous very helpful suggestion. It's worth your time to read: "footers/shelf material." good hunting. -kelly
best all around monitor i've begun to compose posts on this thread twice before, only to resort to the "clear" button. here's the problem: damn near everyone who's stated an opinion here seems to have his/her(we can hope) own idea of what a "monitor" is. when i hear the ...
Integrated amp for Magnepan 1.6QR? kitty: you don't say what your budget might be (or whether you suffer from hairballs). anyway, accuphase makes several integrated's that are first-rate. my older son owns an e-211. perhaps the most beautiful and musical of the integrated's i've se...
Upgrade Time Again.... please help dan: you've gotten some excelent advice already but i'd like to pick up the invitation you issued to sagger to "go outside your list." the impedence curve of the 802's seem quite clearly to auger in favor of high output/high current amps. those in...
High on Thier List, But Low on Yours the most puzzling product for me is stereophile's speaker/product of the year: the avantgarde duo. i've tried, i really have, to appeciate 'em, listening to several setups at 2001 ces but....... the second place on my list belongs to the biggest o...
Rowland Consummate III Pre amp?? like mattimnet, i'm unaware of there ever being a III designation for the jrdg consummate. the consummate is a 2-chassis pre with a seperate phono stage chassis; all three "boxes" are the same size. the pre/power supply was manufactured from 1990-...
Contact cleaners/What's good? i haven't used commercial cleaners or preservatives for several years after experiencing a build up of "gunk" on contacts no matter how little i used or carefully i recleaned. as i recollect, i previously used cramolin. i now use industrial grade ...
Best Sounding Solid State Amp? ultimate toys: since your only apparent criterion is "best sounding," i'd recommend the boulder 2050's. they're class a monoblocs rated at 1000 watts into 8, 4 and 2 ohms. best amps i've ever heard, solid state or tubed. BTW, i only wish i owned a...
Dave Brubeck-Take Five unsquare dance is on at least SIX currently-available cd's. just checked cdnow. took me, maybe, 30 seconds. 'corse i'm on a cable modem. probably take, say, 1 1/2 minutes to get this info with a 56.6. cmon' guys, one would think you know how to us...
New Tyler speakers look incredible. twilo: r u a dealer or wannabe dealer of tyler? these look like, say, 10,000 other boxes out there. BTW, i was at ces. never heard tylers or received any "heads up" from anyone else i know to search 'em out. tell us all, please, why you think thes... |
