rotel 1072 skipping
Great suggestions.  Most "laser failures" are not the actual laser but rather mechanical problems. I had a Rotel player many years ago with a swing arm laser that quit reading at the disc extremes.  One drop of transmission fluid on the pivot bear...
Looking to move to a Tube Integrated setup
I don't disagree with that.  Measurements might help to predict certain aspects of music reproduction, but in the end the true test is your ears and the enjoyment you derive from your system.  Good luck on achieving your goals.
Looking to move to a Tube Integrated setup
In fact I did but your description was a bit ambiguous. But that is not the point. Much of the low impedance occurred with the bass drivers well below the crossover frequency. I suspect the bass drivers are very similar if not the same drivers. ...
Looking to move to a Tube Integrated setup
AGAIN, read the review/measurements.  It is NOT a 4 ohm speaker.  At some frequencies it is just clearing 1 ohm!   Amps need to control speakers, not the other way around.  If you pair a tubed amp with this speaker, the Moab will be exerting its ...
Looking to move to a Tube Integrated setup
Agreed.  I enjoy both tubed and solid state systems, so no personal bias in that regard. After looking at those measurements, I can't imagine a tube amp being happy driving this speakers incredibly low impedance. Nothing wrong with wanting to tr...
Tung-Sol 7581A......Wow!!
That is what I have heard.  My tube knowledge is limited but I believe I read that the plate dissipation is around 5 watts more than the average 6L6.  Does that mean it would necessarily draw more current from the amps power supply?
Tung-Sol 7581A......Wow!!
I am interested in trying these tubes in my Erhard Ray SET.  The output tube supplied is a 6L6. Does the 7581A present any problems/excessive demands on an amp designed for a 6L6?
The rat’s nest of cabling. Large transformers in components.   My discovery.
I have always custom made all of my own cables for an installation that is neat as a pin and optimized to minimize EMI.
REL speakon connection to amp vs speakers
@pbomberg  Funny you should ask.  I spent some time last weekend making some custom cables for a pair of REL subs I just bought.  The subs are to the outside and just a bit behind my speakers, so it made sense to make a short cable to hook up to ...

Happy Thanksgiving to you yogiboy!
Seeking speakers under $3K for 10x12 ft room and driven by 20wpc tube amp
Another thumbs up for Omega monitors.  I have the Super7 Mk II's and am getting great results with a 4wpc SET amp.  They are in a much larger room than yours and I am shocked at what spl I can achieve with this system.  I just added a pair of REL ...
More potential bad news for some big names...
grislybutter 2,991 posts 11-21-2024 at 02:39pm  @nonoise Yes Andrew Robinson is a fraud. Honestly I don't know why anyone would review contemporary Marantz gear in the audiophile category. It's cheap mass produced, mass market stuff   Let's s...
Faint buzz in speakers
Or, that self respecting audiophile could simply make sure all lights with dimmers are turned off while listening.
Audible Illusions Modulus 3A troubles
Agree. If you otherwise are pleased with the condition of the unit, spend some money on a set of tubes instead of return shipping. You probably would have ended up buying tubes in short order anyway.
Physical degradation of CD's
Update. I played this CD on a second system with the same result. This background noise could be best described as what you would hear with a really dirty old abused LP. The second CD of this box set played fine. Interesting.
