Questions about room size and speaker choice Kevinzoe, you be THE man. Thanks for listing this info. It lead me to discover Dr. Toole's great 90 minute ipod-mp3 cast at: http://twit.tv/htg14I really enjoyed his thoughts on listening to live music versus recorded music and large room acoustic...
Is my room too small You're fine at that room size. I've recently acquired a new home and gave up my much larger room. The room I'm in now is actually just slightly smaller than yours. I feared I'd not experience as good a soundstage, but I'm happy to report that wasn...
Anyone have Coincident Frankenstein amps? My amp finally arrived and as promised I've returned to give a brief review of the 534B. As with most everything audio each users experience will vary. This is my first 300B SET experience, but frankly I can't imagine why anyone would spend more. ...
Anyone have Coincident Frankenstein amps? Afc, I've just bought a 534B, and it's enroute. I'll be happy to post a review in a week or so. It's going to drive 96dB open baffle speakers, so combined I'm hopeful of a positive match. We'll soon see. Enjoy!
Review: Coda FET-01p Preamplifier Fabulous review thanks! I owned one of these during a time when I first entered audio. It's been some 15 or so years ago that I bought one of these used for $450. I can still recall how floored I was by it's phono stage performance which looking b...
Where does your user name come from? It was back in '97 and an AG staffer sent me an email after viewing my classified ad on rec.audio.classifieds to notify me of a new website called Audiogon...who else remember the days of buying/selling on usenet, the old audioreview website that ...
You know you're an audiophile if-- your frame of reference for time, i.e. history, is forever linked to the components you used to own, such as: I recall that September of '98 when I got that killer buy on a $3k new Sony XA7ES CDP for $1000 as Sony was closing out production on it....
How good is the BAT VK40? Samzx12 I neglected to mention that my first tube preamp was the VK5i, which I owned at the same time as a Threshold T2, a flagship preamp from Threshold. I loved the 5i, and had a very difficult time parting with it, but in the end BAT's new user...
How good is the BAT VK40? For whatever it's worth, IMHO, there's a bias against BAT solid state products in part I believe because BAT cut their teeth and created a solid reputation on the VK5i, 3i, and the VK60 all of which are hybrid tube designs. I'll even go a step fur...
Sony Blu-Ray dvd players at Costco for $109 It was the BDP-BX2. Just entry level but can't complain for that price. That's funny, when BR first hit the shores folks here would have been all over themselves for a player at that price, now it's cynic central, LOL! I've no connection with Sony...
Running CD-Player Directly from Amp I've had excellent results running the XA7ES direct. The Sony's remote adjusts volume remarkably well when run direct. The XA7ES is every bit as good as the 830, IMHO of course. Enjoy!
Popularity of jazz on World Wide Web Believe it or not. I've lived near Seattle since 1979, and have listened to KPLU since that time. Seattle has a thriving local jazz scene, probably one of the best in the country outside of NYC. But it wasn't until I made a recent trip to Saint-Pe...
Is it my imagination? Welcome to the internet! It should come as no surprise that great buys on Ebay end up here. I recently observed a BAT VK500 amplfier sell for $2125 on Ebay that is a tough find below $2500 here, and also observed a real steal on a BAT VK200 that we...
Best Pre-amp under 2k-USED The best "used" product buys I've seen in a long time are the several BAT VK20's appearing at $1k. I've owned the VK30, VK30SE, VK5i, VK40, and the VK50SE...The VK20 @ a "used" price of $1k is an absolute steal! It's a far better performer than it...
NetFlix long Waiting time Ken, you've echoed my former membership exactly! I miss the convenience of Netflix deliveries, but their waiting period for current films is much too long. It's back to the rental store shuffle for me! |
