Can a PC match the quality of the best CD players?
I am currently experimenting with computer based audio using a Squeezebox (http://www.slimdevices.com/). I ripped my CDs to hard drive using EAC and FLAC (Free Lossless Audio Compression). The Squeezebox directly supports the FLAC format, and deco...
Headphone amp necessary?
I have a pair of Sennheiser HD600s that were sitting idle for a while, and wanted to put them to good use. As I contemplated buying or building a headphone amp, I decided to experiment with a very inexpensive solution, which happened to work with ...
Power Handling - what's "unclipped programme"
The Beatles were the original unclipped programme. ZZ Top is a later example. Willy Nelson too.Sinead O'Connor is a clipped programme.
Jackson Browne Solo Acoustic
Speaking of Jackson Browne, a few years ago I saw him in a benefit concert in a small venue with Bonnie Raitt and Keb Mo'. He was on stage doing some solo pickin' when he starts tuning up his electric guitar to do some slide work. His back was to ...
What Was Thrown Off the Tallahatchie Bridge?
Hey Onhwy -- I have never taken a poll, but I'll bet I am one of only a very few people here on Agon that has an original "Ballads of the Green Beret" LP by SSgt. Barry Sadler. As an impressionable 11 year old, I was pretty much vulnerable to the ...
What Was Thrown Off the Tallahatchie Bridge?
Holy moly...talk about a walk down memory lane......If memory serves correctly, the song was cryptic enough where nobody could really figure out what was being thrown off the bridge....baby, flowers, or whatever.I think in the movie version (with ...
Who was this jazz singer?
I have no idea who it might actually have been, but Sarah McLachlan performs barefoot.
What's your favorite lyric from a song?
Okay...just one more:"You can hide 'neath your covers and study your pain.Make crosses from your lovers, throw roses in the rain.Waste your summer prayin' in vain for a savior to rise from these streets."
Under the Boardwalk
Thanks for all the responses....I can see that a future project will be to obtain these different versions and have fun comparing. That should be a nice change from A/B comparing equipment.
Differences between three turntables
I am a VPI owner, although I started with a Scout (not the HW-19), and then moved up to a Scoutmaster. However, I auditioned the Rega 25 (with RB300 arm and Benz Ace cart) for a good bit before deciding to try the VPI (which, contrary to popular a...
VPI JMW-9 "signature" tonearm???
"Mechanical anti-skate control????" I want to see this!!! Unless that means you "mechanically" twist the wires, as in the past.
Power Conditioners to reduce Sibilance
While I cannot argue with any of the suggestions above, I believe there is no "universal" right answer as to what is causing the sibilence in YOUR system.I have been chasing a sibilence problem in my system, taking the suggestion that room treatme...
Harry Pearson's comments regarding .....
I use Optrix for cleaning CDs and am quite satisfied with it. I use it primarily to clean up used CDs that I pick up. It does what it is supposed to do...clean the disc and not leave a residue. They sound as good as new on my Wadia.
Can I put receiver and CD player on top of my sub?
Can't you install a wall shelf....doesn't necessarily need to be an audiophile shelf like a Target, but I would think any sturdy MDF wall shelf would be a preferable alternative to putting the equipment on top of a fridge or subwoofer.Good luck.
Ready to try vinyl
Regardless of the TT you decide upon, make sure you have a good vinyl cleaning system....I would recommend a vacuum record cleaner like the basic Nitty Gritty. Clean records make a huge difference....and you don't ruin your cartridge.I started wit...
