Lead on Carry That Weight
If you are not already familiar with it; there is a book called "Beatles Songs" that is interesting. It pretty much goes through every song they ever recorded and lists who played what, and who wrote what. It also gives comments, recording info, e...
Has anyone listened to the Grado Statement ?
Sorry Doublebass; I did'nt read your post correctly......... on the other hand though maybe it would be worth your time to check out a different phono stage that would allow you to try a wider variety of carts??? Just a thought.Chris
Has anyone listened to the Grado Statement ?
Hey Doublebass,I'll start out by saying that so much of this stuff is personal preference that it's hard to make an informed decision, especially on cartridges that you can't "take home for an audition". Having said that, I recently went from a Gr...
Magnapan 1.6 and 65 inch tv
Oh Gosh, @#@!&** (much hand wringing).............. Don't tell me. My HT system sounds like crap, I've just wasted a bunch of money on a pair of Maggies, and I did'nt even know it...... Thanks for the heads up Ozzy!!!!UHHUM......... Contrary t...
Best Efficient versatile Speaker reaching 30Hz?
There is a Von Scheikert (sp?) model called the DB93? (I am really butchering this name here) that is very efficient and goes pretty low. It has a built in powered woofer section............ Any it looks very interesting. Maybe someone else can ch...
Magnapan 1.6 and 65 inch tv
I have somewhat of the same setup in my HT system; with a 50 inch Sony TV in the middle. I have the 1.6 ribbons on the inside, rather than the outer edge of the speakers. Paired with a REL subwoofer, they sound great. I would still think you would...
Martin Logan Summit, better than Prodigy
FWIW, I did not simply "walk into a room and decide the speaker is no good" as the above poster suggests. I am very familiar with the room they were situated in. The electronics, while not identical to my own were primarily ARC, which is what I ha...
Martin Logan Summit, better than Prodigy
I currently own the Prodigy's and heard the Summit's at my dealer the other day. I was not impressed. They weren't in the best room but they did have good electronics driving them. They are much smaller than the Prodigy and, the best way I can des...
Mac 402 & Audio Research LS25MKl ?
If you have a good amp, preamp, and speakers (and you do), the next place to look at is your front end......... what's going on there. More info..........
Sonics of Soundlabs
Thanks for all of your posts so far........ 76doublebass, I am only thinking of trying something new (always on the lookout for the holygrail so to speak). It is probably too early to really judge the Soundlabs but, I am thinking you are right; my...
Sonics of Soundlabs
Well guy's,I went to hear these speakers today and was dissapointed. Only one was working.......... the upgraded backplate had not arrived from Soundlabs for the other yet, and there was a lot of distortion from the one that was working. I think i...
Sonics of Soundlabs
Thanks all for your very thoughtful responses. The guy has told me he just installed new cores (is this the transformer that changes the impedence curve, making the speaker more efficient?). Are there any issues to look for when purchasing Soundla...
Sonics of Soundlabs
Thanks for the responses so far. I just auditioned the new Summit's at my local dealer, and was not at all impressed. Maybe (let's say most assuredly) they were not optimised but, IMO my Prodigy's killed them........... the ML stat panels keep get...
Phono Pre-amp for Analog Newbie
What is your budget on a phono pre? The Scoutmaster TT would be a good choice IMO. You could mate a nice ZYX R100 from Mehran (Sorosound) and have a great rig (assuming you are going with the package and doing the JMW 9 tonearm). A Grado Sonata wo...
What's your favorite Audiophile label, and why?
I'll second the Analog Productions stuff. I've liked everything that I've tried but, I must say they are off the charts with the Fantasy 45 Jazz reissues.......... Just outstanding. I have really liked the Speakers Corner (spelling??) reissues of ...
