What is the best phono preamp you have heard?
4yanx, not yet.So far everyone who has heard the Herron readily agrees its a great piece of engineering. Its a good match for the Dynavectors 0.25mv output. I don't quite understand how it works exactly, but it works fine at 47k ohms for low outpu...

$800 Cartridge Shootout and Upgrade Path
For your arm choice, just get the Schroeder Model 2, it will be a lot better than any of the other choices.Between the Denon and the Shelter, its a matter of personal taste. For the Denon, a little more care is required with the arm setup and the ...

Has anyone had experience with the Schroeder Arm
sirspeedyDoug and I have already answered your original question about the sound of the Schroeder(or lack thereof) in our posts. It is really significantly better than "the top pivoting competition" IMO. Take it for what its worth. As to other tone...

Has anyone had experience with the Schroeder Arm
The real question is, what is your frame of reference? There are some who believe that very precise imaging is "accurate" due to more extension in the highs which gives a specific image focus. Or is it that in sonic images reproduced should be appr...
Has anyone had experience with the Schroeder Arm
I had the opportunity to listen to the Galibier Supreme with both the Schroeder Reference and the Triplanar while visiting Thom Mackris in Boulder. He's an excellent host. I wrote a field report here :http://www.echoloft.com/cgi-bin/YaBB/YaBB.cgi?...
How good are Cabasse loudspeakers
The Cabasse iOs are a better bet. The XO is the entry level setup. With the IO, you get much better coherence. Of course the ultimate would be the Baltics.
Is this why my analog rig isn't so hot?
George, with your system as it stands, how much can you turn up the vol pot on your passive pre? 8 o'clock? 9 o'clock? 12 o'clock?Compare this when playing CDs and LPs.Also what cables are you using between the source (phono/CD) and your preamp?
Living with popping and crackling
Hey DougWell, I really, really wish I had access to all your harmonia mundis, teles, archivs, etc... so you should consider yourself one of those fortunate souls who have such treasures. The rest of us beggers don't really have much options. :(but...

Living with popping and crackling
Hi Papertrail"Is there a certain amount of popping and crackling to be expected with almost any lp?" Well yes and no.As 4yanx & Dougdeacon mentioned, it really depends on the vinyl and the label. Doug mentions Harmonia Mundi. There are also th...
