any thoughts on apogee centaur speakers?
I always loved my Centaurs. Stunning imaging. Extremely neutral presentation with lots of shimmer. Very picky about set up.They're sitting in the garage, and have been for 10 years. Maybe it's time to see what they sound like today with a totally ...
Tube Amps and Friendly Speakers - Back Impedance
When Ken Zelin worked for McIntosh, he prepared a graphic slide suggesting customers use the different taps on their Mac amps to adjust for room anomalies. You can find the graphic by googling Ken Zelin and output taps. It's available on the klips...
Adcom GFP-565 pre-amp
If you use the outstanding MM phono stage, I would be reluctant to part with it. I parted with mine only because I wanted to move to MC. I got $340 for mine here. People know about the GFP-565. It's a stellar performer for the price.
VPI 3D tonearm
Still almost no commentary on the quality offered by the VPI 3D. Sad! I'm really intrigued.
Best bookshelf/stand mount speakers
This conversation, today, would also have to include the Salk Silk. Pulsars for less than half the price? Pretty much. Raal tweeter. Scanspeak Illuminator mid/woofer putting out sick amounts of bass from a 5 1/4 driver. Crazy detail and neutrality...
New to the Record Cleaner Wars: Music Hall WCS-2
Heck, yes, it does look just like the Opera/Consonance. And it costs $100 less. Watching the video, the motor on the Opera sounds equally violent. Music Hall says "this thing really sucks!" And so it does. If you've done an A/B or something like t...
feedback wanted Reference 3A speakers???
Count me a believer. I have the latest De Capo model before they went to Nextel covering (sitting four post Sound Anchors). The entire line features tons of tweaks for the money, and the extension/air when combined with the solid bass is simply un...
I wanna rock -- with monitors on stands
Missioncoonery, I am playing the A1 stamper from the English pressing of "Give Em Enough Rope." It has never sounded better to me. Like I said, I wanna rock.
I wanna rock -- with monitors on stands
PBNaudio, I have WAF issues. Need to stick with my stand/monitor combo. Especially if I am going to double my investment in speakers.
Reference 3a mm de capo vs. ProAc Response 2
I had the Response D2's and the MM De Capo I in my listening room at the same time. Mac MC275 mkV amp. I sold the ProAcs and kept the 3A's. It was not even close. Much more air and realism (and better bass) from the 3A's. Stunning imaging as they ...
Audible Illusions M3B or L3
The 3B is a fantastic preamp. Much quieter and dynamic than the 3A I traded in to Audible Illusions. If you don't care about remote control and don't mind twisting two volume knobs, it is an easy to love product. Unfortunately, I waited more than ...
Amps to consider for Nautilus 802s
Your vinyl problem is phono stage/cartridge related. The B&W's crave power. So get a Krell, or go Rowland separates! The 802s will sing.
Sleeper preamps: $500 new/used
This is the Adcom GFP-565 in spades. Closer to $325 used. Very highly regarded phono stage. Mine's gone to a new home!
reference 3a or emerald physics-monterey bay area?
I think this may be your best bet. http://bluemoonav.com/products.htmlRun, don't walk to try the 3A's. Just got a pair and am fairly stunned by them using Mac MC275 and C50. Great value. Stunning imaging. Real bass for the size.
B&W Matrix 805's, need amp, pre-amp, or integrated
The classic recommendation for 805s is big solid state power. Emotiva is a good recommendation in your price range. An Adcom GFA 555 II would be very affordable. The Wyred 4 Sound amps might fit, too.
