Balanced Variable Attenuators
A couple things, I have had both the Endler and EVS attenuators and preferred the EVS. I still keep a set around just in case. Also, if you can't get Ric to make you the balanced attenuators you might want to consider the balanced Luminous Audio A...
Music Reference RM9 - user comments please
Patience grasshopper, there may be an option on the horizon.
SET sound without a lot of money
I have owned the RM-9 and RM-10, but a different points in time. I wouldn't say the RM-10 is a considerable upgrade over the RM-9. They are both outstanding amplifiers. I will say if you don't require the 100 watt output the RM-9 the RM-10 will no...
SET sound without a lot of money
The Music Reference RM-10 is not a SET amp. It is an EL-84 based push/pull.It is however an amp that is a game changer as a couple of us on here who also own Atma-Sphere amps can attest to.
Amp help with a B.E.L. 1001 Mk.II
I used to go to Bart's quite often when I lived in Denver. They did have some nice vintage gear on occasion. So did Twist & Shout but their prices weren't as attractive. My old buddy Doug just moved his record shop from it's former outpost in N...
Good Tube Selection for Atma Sphere S30?
If I'm guessing the correct manufacturer it's too bad the curves of the glass envelope of those tubes aren't more reminiscent of the famous Italian actress. They'd be a lot sexier.
SET amp recommendation
I forgot to add this to my previous post.If you really want to rock your world pick up a Music Reference RM-10 MkII. I can almost guarantee you will rethink what high-end audio means to you.
SET amp recommendation
You may not know this but Ralph has built for his own use a 45 SET amp. He has mentioned it before in some threads here. You might want to chat with him about the sonic attributes of SET vs. OTL. We have a 45 amp that we sell too, in addition to a...
Good Tube Selection for Atma Sphere S30?
Erfranke, what preamp are you using with your S-30?
Which TOWERs work well CLOSE to the BACK WALL?
I also agree that you need not stay away from rear ported designs. It may help to tell us what amp will be driving the speakers. In general, Audiokinesis models (except the Dream Maker) are very flexible due to the ability to adjust or plug the rea...
Good Tube Selection for Atma Sphere S30?
I don't mess with the 6AS7's, I use the stock ones that came with the amp. As for 6SN7 tubes I use Raytheon VT-231 in the front row (Ralph mentioned this would be the best spot to try NOS tubes) and Sylvania 6SN7 GTB in the back row. I removed the...
how much $$$ to really upgrade my DAC
I used to own the M24 and in many ways it is a giant killer. While you can certainly find something that will outperform it you'll have to spend significantly more IMO to do so and then you might just find that you've spent 5x the cost of the M24 ...
Hi Fi Dealers in NYC - where to find them?
Wow Take 5 Audio, a blast from the past. Glad to hear they are still around. Sad to say I can't say the same for Rhymes Records (long gone) or Cutlers Records (still kicking but a shell of its former self).
will different lengths affect sound
Not only does Ocos advertise no audible difference using different lengths, they also state that with their cable, there is no difference between long versus short runs. I never tried a short run of their cable, but I use an 18' long run and have ...
