My experience adding subwoofers to 2 channel
@noble100, The amplifier is the Music Reference RM-200, 100 watts per channel, damping factor of 10, can drive a 2 ohm load (it’s a favorite amp among some of the Martin Logan crowd). The other amps I use are vintage Luxman and Accuphase amps. For...
My experience adding subwoofers to 2 channel
@mijostyn, I'll have to send you a photo showing what Roger did to create the wider dispersion. It basically involves some resistors, I believe three of them mounted near the bottom of the panel. I had to snip some of the wiring to put them in.Rog...
My experience adding subwoofers to 2 channel
@noble100 if it wasn’t clear let me try to clarify it for you.1. I’m building subs with 10" drivers for use as either a DBA or line array. It’s nice to have choices.2. My active crossover has LP and HP filters set at 100 Hz. So the HP output sends...
My experience adding subwoofers to 2 channel
I use low pass and high pass filters in my active crossover, Linkwitz-Riley 4th order 24 dB slope. One reason this was chosen is that we wanted to keep deep male vocals out of the subs. The other reason had to do with the resonance of the 8" drive...
My experience adding subwoofers to 2 channel
My subs were built a while back, mijostyn helped me set them up for optimal performance in the line array. His subs have quite a large footprint, as do his speakers which are probably the best Acoustat model in my opinion. They line array per mijo...
My experience adding subwoofers to 2 channel
I have known Duke LeJeune for quite some time now, even owning his Jazz Module speakers for several years and using his speakers in my exhibit rooms at audio shows. Earl Geddes was his mentor and while Duke manufactures box speakers, he has a pret...
Acoustic treatment
About 15 years ago there was a company called Eighth Nerve that I believe duplicated the Room Tunes concept. The front of the panels were a hard surface and the back the absorption fiber glass. They were well built, not very wide, maybe 8" and abo...
Anyone Here Have Atma-Sphere Amps?
I have been an Atma-Sphere customer for some time. I use the M60s in my system. They drive either Spendor 1/2e or Quad ESL 57 speakers. For speakers with difficult loads I use a set of Zero autoformers between the M60s and the speakers so that the...
Spendor D7, D9 but no love Classic 100?
The Classic series of old and the recent models are totally different in my opinion. So much so that instead of buying any of the recent versions of the 1/2 I waited patiently to buy a pair of the older 1/2e that I had owned several years previous...
Permanent 50hz
If you want to test to see if the issue is the amp you could try putting shorting plugs on the amps inputs. Then power the amp on and see if the noise is still present.
Why the fascination with subwoofers?
@rauliruegas Here is the definition of notable (adjective): worthy of attention or notice. In this context when I read Ralph's statement I felt it was worthy of attention.
Why the fascination with subwoofers?
I am out listening to live music once or twice a week. Living in the SF Bay Area there are no shortage of events, from local spots to well known venues. I've also been fortunate to record or obtain recordings of many of the events I attend. I beli...
Why the fascination with subwoofers?
@rodman99999 When I first built my woofer system, it was designed(1980-81) to mate well with my Acoustat Model IIIs. It’s worked seamlessly, with everything(mostly planar) I’ve owned, since(various active crossovers, amps and one driver change,...

Why the fascination with subwoofers?
Can someone define for me what "tight" bass is.
