Bargain Priced SACD Giant Killer?
I also have dealt with the person that Lkdog knows. He introduced me to the TRL sound. While he preferred the Reimyo to the TRL SA-14, the TRL NS-900V was another story altogether, which was enough of a statement for me to make me find a used NS-9...
Best budget phono preamp?
I have heard good things about the new Jolida from a friend who bought one. Paid $350 from Walter at Underwood HiFi. Uses 2 x 12AX7 tubes. He has the stock not modified unit.
Need help with Turntable set-up in San Diego
I will be in SD in a couple weeks on a business trip. If my schedule permits I will be happy to visit your friend and help him out. I have alignment, VTF, antiskating, and KAB strobe tools, as well as test discs. Email me privately if this is of i...
turntable repair shops in los angeles?
I think Brooks Berdan in Monrovia would work for you if you're willin to travel east a bit. It's worth the drive anyway just to view the analog museum he has assembled. Great guy and staff to work with.I know Mitch Singerman in LA repairs electron...

Tvad - I'm not sure if this is going to take you where you need to go, but:http://www.mcmaster.com/If it is not a direct link, then type in "carbide balls" (sans parentheses) in the search box. When the navigation tree pops up on the left select T...
Aurios under JC1 monoblock's?
Perfectionist - the rubber pieces may actually be an interesting discovery for you. One thing about rubber though from what I have learned, is that the durometer rating could play a factor. Products like sorbothane or the rubber-based dampening pr...
CD output voltage too high for preamp: what to do?
In looking at the Endler attenuators they appear to be a replacement to the active preamp, not used with it. Am I understanding this correctly? If they indeed can be used with an active preamp to reduce the gain, these might be worth a try.
CD output voltage too high for preamp: what to do?
This is a bit of a curiosity for me. If the output of a DAC is 1.5V, is there a minimum input impedance the preamp should have to accomodate the DACs output? Does the preamps gain play into this equation? My preamp has 4 gain settings, 11db, 14db,...
Need help
Good advice by Jdombrow. I also was investigating SET amps recently and it became obvious there was nothing in my budget that was going to work with 88db efficient speakers. Since the speakers weren't going anywhere, I ended up going in another di...
CD output voltage too high for preamp: what to do?
I have a similar situation with a high gain amp (.8v for full output, 30 db gain) and was having the same issue with the volume control, both for digital (1.5v) and analog playback. I just bought the Rothwell attenuators and they work for me. Now ...
Aurios under JC1 monoblock's?
Essentialaudio makes some good points. However, tweaking is not an exact science. If it were we'd all know what to do for our individual system set-ups based on simple formulas. It's really easy to go out and spend hundreds of dollars in tweaks th...
Bargain Priced SACD Giant Killer?
The TRL mods are definitely on the less expensive side and provide significant bang for the buck, which fits in with the theme of the thread. However, I would not under estimate the amount of work that goes into the mods, especially with the DVP-N...
Bargain Priced SACD Giant Killer?
Jack,Wonder where all the units came from ;)UPS and I are getting pretty friendly. BTW - each of the people in the VMPS room who purchased the unit had almost the exact same thoughts on the player. The consistency of their listening experiences we...
Aurios under JC1 monoblock's?
A much less expensive solution that worked for me under my 65 lb. solid state amp was the use of 2" x 2" x 1" cork squares (4 of them). These are the ones where the cork is sandwiched between two pices of rubber. They are available from HVAC parts...
Which cd player: New /w Mod or just plain new?
Phaelon - Yes that is a bit further away than one would probably care to travel, but there are a couple of people in your area that can demo TRL products for you. Hopefully they will extend an offer.
