Rippling cones
jasonbourne52... A subsonic filer is the best solution here! All phono stages should have a low filter. Placing a TT on a heavier base will not fix this. It is inherent in LPs. It wastes amplifier power!Rumble does indeed waste amplifier, but i...
Parts Availability
Grado has always been good with parts and service.
Stacking Components
Stacking is especially unwise with phono stages, which work with very low signals and are vulnerable to noise.

chakster@cleeds No, I think you didn’t get the point. It’s not about platter, mat or clamp or ring weight that anyone can use. It’s about vinyl record profile (you can’t change it)@chakster I understand your point about the LP's profile. My po...

chakster ... only Flat Profile from the lead-in groove to the run-out groove can guarantee there is no pitch to the profile, allowing your stylus to play truly perpendicular to the grooves from edge to center ... look at the profile thickness, con...

millercarbonIf the cartridge is well made then the stylus is aligned with the cantilever is aligned with the generator is aligned with the body. Therefore we can look at the body. So what do we need a mirror for? Using the reflection magnifies...
Turntable isolation platform Recommendations?
mijostyn Critical Mass and Townsend make inexpensive, 1/2 baked stuff that no respectable lab would ever put an electron microscope on. A turntable's requirements are just as stringent.Perhaps that's true for a cheap turntable, but what many a...
Power cord choice?
danvignauOnce again, sales pitches from commissioned people are influencing buying choices. So it's a conspiracy, is that what you're claiming?...  I have always enjoyed watching people continue wasting time, as I am now doing, striving to adj...
CD Quality Versus Streaming Quality
optimizeA CD drive and a CD disc use many techniques to ensure that the data is error free.Quite so, and read errors from a CD that has been reasonably well cared for are rare. Data encoded on a CD are redundant, and CIRC allows most errors to...

kunalraiker What is the mirror method? You can use the reflection of the bottom of a phono cartridge in a mirror to set azimuth, by ensuring the bottom of the cartridge is parallel to its reflection. Some mirrored phono alignment gauges also include...
To Stream or not to Stream
izjjzi OP21 posts07-27-2021 9:36amI am paralyzed. There are so many options, reviews, recommendations... I am truly frozen, unable to choose. Wish it were easy ... I think I've already researched too much and will always be second guessing ......
Power cord choice?
vinylshadowThe 156 is a very good unit but I couldn't figure out why it had a 20A power cord and IEC inlet but 15A outlets ...That's like ARC, which ships preamps with 20A cords even though 15A would more than suffice. But ARC thinks the 20A plu...
So how much do you think the placebo effect impacts our listening preferences?
rols I mean, people have been operated on without anaesthetic and not felt pain thanks to placebo ...That sounds extremely doubtful unless other techniques were used, such as this. Otherwise, it would be an unconscionable experiment.
Why does Esoteric refuse to update its older models ?
iaa_award_collectors_on_facebookAnd Teac investors were Gibson, Integra, Onkyo....TEAC is NOT on its own. Wouldnt survive without larger corporations investing.Gibson sold its stake in TEAC. TEAC actually has many investors - it's a publicly trad...
Quality outlets for non-audio
I think all of the manufacturers make contractor-grade devices, and that's what I avoid. The better devices grip better and are more durable, but they cost more than the cheapie units. Hubbell and Leviton have both served me well.
