Neil Young at Massey Hall
I gotta agree - this is the young Neil with the world still ahead of him. It is a very intimate one on one with the crowd. I very much enjoyed the recording, it contributed a lot to the overall feeling. It is amazing how many of his big hits were ...
Has iTunes, etc. impacted your listening habits?
Huge impact. I quit seriously listening to music in the 70s. Since getting into iTunes, I have tripled my CD collection over the past three years - now I pick and choose from 1,500 CDs. Obviously ease of access is unbelievable. But there are other...
Power conditioner plugged into computer battery
I am not an EE - most of what I know about this stuff I learned working power issues on my sailboat. Inverters, batteries, alternators and 110. It is an unholy brew.I understand what you are trying to do. I believe APC has done it for you.BUT If y...
Power conditioner plugged into computer battery
Please note that the APC unit provides a pure sinewave - as opposed to square wave power. Sinewave is what you need - computers don't care, and it is more expensive to produce sinewave power.Secondly if you search the Forums you will see that almo...
Power conditioner plugged into computer battery
APC recently introduced a series of power conditioners specifically designed for audio/video applications.Their "S" Type AV Power Conditioner with Battery is pretty much exactly what you are looking for: "Pure sine-wave battery backup, surge prote...
Looking for Jazz emsembles with a guitar flair
If you want to try something just a bit off the beaten path, filled with inventive rhythms, soaring melodies and unusual instrumentation its well worth listening to Ali Farka TourĂ©, the truly phenomenal African guitarist from Mali who passed away ...
Best outdoor speaker
Pretty tough to beat the classic Bose 151s. This is the older model which is a rectangle not the newer designs which I am sure are great but I have no experience with.I had a set of the 151s on the stern of my sailboat for over 5 years and they wo...
Sales: truth in weight?
Interesting post - I am just waiting for ebay shipping practices to move on to audiogon. Take a look at how often the shipping for an ebay item - regardless of cost - is fixed at $30 or 40 plus insurance etc etc. Talk about buried profit. And also...
iPod as a source 80 gig model, lossless
Marco - no question that there are much better ways to play digital music then an iPod. It's a convenience or form factor thing. Makes no sense with a nice rig in place. But nice by the pool, on a boat, at the mountain cabin, the guest bedroom etc...
iPod as a source 80 gig model, lossless
Turns out that cables are really important because the key to optimizing an iPod as a source is to use the line out on the bottom of the case - not the headphone jack. Amazing to me that our entire high end industry went for the easy money headpho...
What song is your fav.Emmylou cut???
You got to check out EmmyLou singing Amazing Grace with Ladysmith Black Mambazo on their Long Walk To Freedom album. Chilling - and a wonderful recording.
Most Effective Tweaks
I like the HiFi Ceramic ones from Germany - " Hi-Fi Tuning Silver Filament Gold over Silver Plated Ceramic Fuses..." haven't tried the others
Wow CDs everywhere...What to do?
I'll argue =) Apple Lossless coming out of the DAC with a very good cable surprises most people. I got into all this in 2003/4 because the Sony changer was obviously a dead-end with very sketchy software support from third parties. And Escient whi...
Upgrading / tweaks - crossover, wiring, support
You know, I am not enough of an engineer to know why the thin wiring - but I can tell you from observation that all the leading edge solutions involve thin wire not battery cables so there must be something to it.I've got to second Shadorne here. ...
Upgrading / tweaks - crossover, wiring, support
David - just might work =)A better plinth cannot hurt - lots of info out there, a significant driver will be what kind of floor you have - for instance sand filled plinth on concrete but perhaps spikes on hardwood. Definitely some experimentation ...
