VPI Aries 2 , SME IV & Rotel RC 1090, cartridge? The specifications of the Sumiko Blackbird (cartridge weight 9.6g, compliance 12 microns/mN) suggest that it should pair well with the SME IV tonearm for a combined resonance frequency of about 10Hz. As long as the output of the cartridge (2.5 mV)...
Tone arm cable for SME V Mgottlieb, you mentioned that the Purist Dominus phono cable "isn't even all that horribly expensive." The Cable Company is showing a retail price for a one-meter cable as $5,830 (!). Is this an accurate price?
Cartridge for SME IV.V I am using the SME IV arm with the top Dynavector cartridge (the XV-1s). This cartridge is an outstanding performer, and the SME IV and V series arms pair exceptionally well with the XV-1s. IMO you should definitely put the XV-1s on your short list.
Minimum Cartridge output for CAT Ultimate Preamp I used to own the CAT SL-1 Mk. III with the built-in phono stage, and I ran the 0.65mV van den Hul Frog with no problem.
Am I behind the digital eightball? It looks like I am somewhat a voice of dissension here, but I have recently had my eyes opened to the potential sound quality of SACD with the EMM Labs gear. Even though I have owned the Meitner digital gear for over a year now, I only recently go...
tube amp for revel salon ? If you are going to attempt to run the Revel Salons with a tube amp, it has to be an amp that can deliver a LOT of current to the speakers. I run the Salons with the CAT JL-1 LEs, and the combination is great. The CAT amps are some of the few tube...
Your Top 5 Sax Players? Sorry, that was a slip on my part.
VPI periphery record ring for VPI Scoutmaster I have found that the periphery ring weight and the heavy center weight are important to the voicing of my TNT Mk. 6 turntable. In upgrading my turntable, I first upgraded my Mk. 4 lead/acrylic/cork platter to the Mk. 6 acrylic platter and inverte...
Your Top 5 Sax Players? I think that Charlie Parker and Lester Young would have to be on the list. I agree that Coltrane belongs on the list as well. Other candidates would include:Ben WebsterStan GetzColeman HawkinsJohnny HodgesSonny RollinsHank MobleyOrnette ColemanCan...
Dynavector XV-1s set up Dynavector advises an impedance loading greater than 30 ohms. I agree with the advice offered by Vetterone. I am currently running my XV-1s cartridge at a loading of 100 ohms, which sounds "right" in my system for most LPs. I have also done extens...
Manly Steelhead - any downside?? Shane, I bought my Steelhead new, and I found that it settled in very quickly. It bested my Lamm LP2 right out of the box. The changes in the sound with additional run-in were subtle.
Manly Steelhead - any downside?? Shane, the specifications of the XV-1s cartridge would indicate that the upper end of the range for optimal impedance loading would likely not exceed 200 ohms. Loading the cartridge at 47k ohms should tend to emphasize the treble frequencies and a...
Manly Steelhead - any downside?? Shane, I am running the Manley Steelhead with a Dynavector XV-1s cartridge. The XV-1s pairs very well with this phono stage. (Given the flexibility of this phono stage, I am hard-pressed to name a cartridge that does not pair well.) You will find ...
Theater Pass Through wtih EMM DCC2 Rmaidenberg, I am intrigued to hear about your findings. A volume setting of 99 on the DCC2 will apply maximum gain to the signal at the variable output jacks. If your dealer is saying that maximum gain equals unity gain, then what I think he are ...
VdH VTA setting preferences Nsgarch, all I can tell you is what sounds better to me in my system. I don't have the technical depth to attempt to explain the reasons, but I know what I hear with this cartridge in my system. Technical explanations aside, it sounds like VPI has... |
