Berning ZH-270 Replacement
Hi Barry, Better options? Not likely at anywhere near the price point but different options, yes of course. If you want to check out something different for the fun of it you could try a one of the switching (digital) amps or maybe a Chip amp or p...
Berning ZH-270 Replacement
Barry, No integrated I have heard competes with an upgraded ZH270. My suggestion would be to wait for a ZH270 to show up on the used market and grab it, as the 270 should mate perfectly with the Sonus Faber Guarnari Homage. Even a stock ZH270 with...
Thorens TP-16 Tonearm cartridge mounting issue
Does anyone by chance know if the TD166 motor is the same motor that is used in the TD160 MKI? I am searching for a spare and found one from a TD166 but am not sure if this is the same 16 pole asynchronous motor as used in the 160.
Thorens TP-16 Tonearm cartridge mounting issue
Found a formula for calculating compliance here - http://www.theanalogdept.com/cartridge___arm_matching.htmThis really helps!
Thorens TP-16 Tonearm cartridge mounting issue
Stefanl, compliance is something I have only glanced at, the general information I have about the TP-16 MKI is it is a medium mass tonearm and the Grado should work. Is there a site, link or calculation you could recommend for determining proper c...
Thorens TP-16 Tonearm cartridge mounting issue
Ekobesky, I originally considered swapping out the TP-16 in favor of a modern arm but I feel at this point the Thorens arm is nice enough to keep. I have rewired it completely with Cardas tonearm wire, re lubed and re adjusted the bearings, calibr...
Thorens TP-16 Tonearm cartridge mounting issue
Thorman, that's a good idea going from the bottom up but the factory holes on the Grado do not go all the way through the body. Grado may, however, drill out a cartridge body for me if I inquired about it.
Thorens TP-16 Tonearm cartridge mounting issue
Just a note - it seems there is no headshell on the Thorens TP16 MKII, just interchangeable arm wands.
Ripping 700 CD's to HD using FLAC-How much space?
Evgeny, Thanks for the insight in regards to the amount of space you have used on your FLAC DVD-RW storage disks, that really helps shed some light on ways to store the media using a "hard back up" method other than keeping the original disks. Spe...
Has anyone tried Dueland 2.0 Hookup Wire
I'm using a .5m pair of Duelund 2.0 with Eichmann rca's (Cardas solder) and they alright for diy but can be noisy due to a lack of shielding. Can be bright with the wrong rca ends also.
Ripping 700 CD's to HD using FLAC-How much space?
Ozzy, to answer your question, yes, high fidelity 2-channel playback is my primary reason for utilizing lossless digital conversion when transferring cd's to a hard drive. The term "lossless" means you will be making an exact bit for bit copy of t...
Ripping 700 CD's to HD using FLAC-How much space?
Thanks Al for bringing that RAID link to my attention. I had originally thought a RAID setup would be ideal but then again, maybe not for music storage.
Chicagoland Record Shops
Anyone have experience with Beverly Records on the South side? Heard it was hit or miss and rather cluttered...
Best tube amp $2000-2500?
Berning EA2101 if you can find one. Sonically, a very clean and clear tube amp with plenty of bass. Build quality is superb as is reliability. Tube life is also much longer than most tube amps as a result of the screen drive. Second hand market va...
bullet proof amp
Berning amps, bulletproof-yes - any model should suffice.
