Tannoy Stirlings on the way!
TM- After 3 weeks of covid I finally finished my evaluation. The bookshelves were excellent on the top end with a  beryllium tweeter. the 7" mid woofers produced an accurate fast bass. But in the end the Midrange of the Tannoys was missing. I...
Your single most significant purchase mistake?
  - Things we bought that were mistakes I bought an open box Line Magnetic 218a? Mini INT $400. It had EL 84s. Made no magic at all. Sold it in a day for what I paid. Still not clear what went wrong.   - Things we sold that should have been...
Please help my ignorant a$$, I just want a good streamer...I think.
I am like you- techno challenged. When I chose streaming as my primary source I wanted something, well, idiot proof. I also did not want anymore boxes than necessary. I did not one with a built-in DAC as that technology improves too rapidly.   ...
How long ago did you catch the bug?
My parents built a home we moved into in 1963 when I was 9.  They had installed an HH Scott Receiver teamed with a Garrard TT, Sony  R2R with Bozak Speakers. That system was likely super warm  but we loved it.
Atma-Sphere vs. Supratek
Why consider an exotically produced product when there are US based options? I have never seen any of Ralph's gear at our local Hi-End repair shop which but I have seen Supratek. (Not a scientific poll).  Of course it is fun to have a piece few...

What Is So Special About Harbeth?
arak- If you were producing hand-made, high end speakers in limited quantities  in the UK, how many seconds would you produce in a year? Darn few I'd venture. Would you ship them to the US to sell or unload them locally? It is obvious these fol...
Experience with XRCDs
Not sure if they are still manufactured? XRCDs just keep getting pricier. Makes SACD sound like a transistor radio.
Can it get better?
Although Mr Shaw denies it, I think Harbeths benefit greatly from higher current/power. If you want to experiment without breaking the bank I would look into a Class D power option with at least 200 wpc. That can be had new for $1,500-$2,500 an...
What Is So Special About Harbeth?
It does appear that Harbeth may be in need of cash. They are discounting models on the TMR website and now this. The 30.2 XDs at $7k can be made to sound very good.  What is special about them? The cabinet is tuned to be part of the listening ...
Denefrips Pontus "burn in" period?
As you may know Alvin ships his DACs with 100 hours of burn in. This is a very cool thing. Not many makers do that. Now when orders back up could the 100 hours turn out to be 5 hours?   I bought the same DAC in December. I was traveling for the ...
Where to buy SACD`s ?
Dude, Screwed up my first response post. My apologies. Please forget about SACDs. Means nada. What counts when looking for top SQ is in the recording/engineering of the music. Some are-YES- better than others. Formats do not mean squat. The o...
