Will the placement of casters on speaker stands degrade the performance
I have some Harbeth speakers on standard metal stands.  I fitted some sturdy casters onto the stands to experiment with room placement and I ended up leaving them even after deciding on placement.  As douglas said above, it all depends on your imp...
Recording to test right and left channels...
You should have a test CD as stated above, but if you don't, on Brubeck's Time Out, the drums are recorded to the left.  Same on the CD and the LP.
Is there a point of diminished returns with amps and Harbeth 30.1s?
@dhcod - Just remember that it doesn’t matter what anyone else hears, claims to hear or claims to tell you what you should hear. All that matters is what you hear in your home, in your system. Then you can relax and listen to beautiful music while...
Buying advice
Just listen to music that sounds good on your system. That’s what I do.At least I admit it.
Help Me Improve My Turntable Set-Up
I think you have to try to find some opportunity to listen to someone's system that sounds the way you want yours to sound and work from there.  It sounds like you're just generally unsatisfied and you're guessing at what it might be.  Unless you ...
CD Player Tweak
I use a Gutwire Notepad on top of my components.  Damps out vibration without gluing anything inside.  Don't know if they're still made.
What Was Your Favorite “Game Changer” Moment?
I posted above that hearing a $750 turntable sounding better in some ways than my 10K+ CD player was a real awakening.  But also game changing was when I went to my dealer seeking to upgrade my amplifier and he demonstrated that upgrading the prea...
Music for setting up speakers
I think a good method is to use a track with a female vocal and fairly deep bass and move the speakers away from the walls to achieve the best balance between bass response and vocal clarity.  As you move closer to the walls the bass might increas...
Best Integrated Amp (for me)
Plenty of good recommendations.  If you have a MM cartridge, consider the Heed Elixir.  Over budget, but you have good speakers and I would advise you not to cheap out too much or you will hear it.  My advice is to buy new so you have dealer suppo...
My Apologies to Miller Carbon
I thought I recall Paul from PS saying he thought SS should be left on all the time and that his original products didn't have an on/off switch because of it.  However, he went on to say that the market demanded the on/off switch so he included on...
Is there a point of diminished returns with amps and Harbeth 30.1s?
@dhcod - I absolutely hear what your are saying, but after trying some better cables with several Harbeth speakers and hearing the dramatic results, I think you are closing yourself off from a possible big upgrade. Your system is very nice and I’m...
Is there a point of diminished returns with amps and Harbeth 30.1s?
I know you are asking about amps, but IMO, contrary to Alan Shaw's opinion, speaker cables make a big difference.  I've owned the M30s, SHL5s and P3s and I've found the right speaker cables to improve the sonics significantly.  I don't know what y...
Music Hall Cruise Control vs Pro-next Speed Box for MMF-7
Looks like the speed box does not have adjustments for speed control.  Just 33/45.  Is your tt running off speed?  You need a KAB strobe to check it.  If it's not, I would leave it alone.  If it is, I would probably buy the Music Hall, as it has s...
SLOT LOADING CD MECHANISMS - DO THE DAMAGE CD'S?
If you're that against the slot loaders, you should try the Cambridge CXC, which is in your price range.  I've had one for over a year and there are many satisfied owners here.  One person above posted that he felt the Audiolab was far superior in...
Heed Obelisk Integrated?
@greg7 - I would ask Gene Rubin. He is a Heed dealer and has an excellent reputation for sound advice and honesty.
