CEC Belt Drive CD Transports vs Jay's Audio CD Transports @no_regrets - just curious after all this, how the Jay/mojo combo is sounding in your system. Did you compare it directly to the CDS/XPS? I still think that was one of the best CD players ever made. Also, did you try the digital out on the CDS as...
Speaker cables with good timbre I don’t know if your posted system is up to date, but if the higher level Morrow and Argento cables aren’t giving you what you want, what you are seeking is probably elsewhere in your system. I’ve owned the Forests and I think they are great speak...
HOW DID YOU END UP WITH YOUR DREAM SYSTEM? Spend enough money so the next step up is either financially or logistically impossible.
A question on amp matching There are a lot of differences in amplifiers besides watts. I remember using a Naim 200, with 60 watts I think and it sounded a bit thin and anemic. I switched to a Naim 250 with only 10 watts more, but it sounded twice as powerful because of the...
What Holiday Gifts did you ask for or Give to Yourself? @elliottbnewcombjr Amazing vehicle. Best of luck. If it plays DVD audio, try some DAD discs. It was my favorite hi-rez format, but I don’t have a DVD player since I sold my Oppo 205. Haven’t seen a back seat like that since my 1970 Mach 1. I tr...
Does VPI ADS work with Basis Gold Debut? The Phoenix products are excellent. I have a Falcon that I was using with my Basis and the micro adjustments really let you lock the speed in. The only thing is, the Falcon has a 5v limit, which runs very hot with the Basis 5v motor and I was conc...
Does VPI ADS work with Basis Gold Debut? I am using one with my Basis 2001 and it works fine. My only quibble is that the speed adjustment pot is so fine that turning it a hairs breath changes the speed quite a bit. But you can get the speed right and it does hold it well.
What devices have you found useful when inspecting your stylii for cleanliness? Vivitar lighted magnifier from Amazon. Cheap and easy to use. Had mine for many years.
Advice for headphone amp and dac I bought a Topping DX3+ for headphones and it’s not bad at all. $200 from Amazon. You can go up the Topping range if you want to spend more money.
Tube amp repairs in the Boston area? Personally, I would call Dan and see if he could diagnose over the phone. It may well be something simple as you say, but get his opinion first. If he can’t diagnose it, I would recommend sending it back to him for repair. Unless the tech you kn...
Looking for more advice on purchasing a new turntable. I looked briefly through the thread, but I didn’t see whether you currently own a table or have any experience with analog. I think the recommendations would be more focused if you answered that. Sorry if I missed it if you did. @thedoc2004
New Analog Technology??? So has anything ever come of this?
Turntable suggestions for a newbie The dealer you buy from can and should assist you with the cartridge. But placement is a big issue. Take half a glass of water and put it where you plan to place the table. If the water wobbles a lot when you walk around, you will have problems.
Do Harbeth speakers really need a 4000 damping factor? If you have the ability to build wooden stands, take a look at the Tontrager stands. People rave about them and they shouldn’t be very hard to knock up for anyone with decent woodworking skills. But don’t underestimate the differences a good stand...
Do Harbeth speakers really need a 4000 damping factor? I’ve owned several Harbeth models and, while they are very electronics tolerant, I’ve found more difference in the stands and the interface between the stand and the speakers. For my taste, open-frame metal stands sounded best, or at least using a... |
